So I was playing MAG last night and though I'm normally quite good, I was completely off my game and making every noob mistake in the book.

I stopped walking and would stay still for long periods, I would camp too long as a sniper and be found... Seemed like I just wasn't on my game.

I realized it's happened quite a bit in the past too. Mistakening the wrong trigger button and tossing a grenade two feet away, or shooting at an enemy to have a team mate run in front of you and die. Every now and then, I find I simply can't help but become a gaming noob for breif moments.

So the question is: Do you find that you make noob mistakes in online games from time to time, how often, and what happened?

When i switch between games i can make some mistakes with controls, like if i started to play a old Metal Gear game i would find my self pressing X to confirm not the O everyone makes mistakes, it's the circle of life.

For me it's if I switch between different games. For example, say I play COD4 online for a while, then move onto KZ2, I'll be pretty terrible for a while till I get used to it again. So for me, the main mistake is pressing the wrong buttons because I'm used to a different game's contols

I don't play online games much and I've been getting better recently, but I used to make total noob mistakes all the time playing Modern Warfare 2. My friend, who sort of knew how to play due to watching commentaries and help videos, kept saying that I had no right to do as well as I did.

I remember when I first got a message on the Wii and the blue light started flashing I started panicking and immediately went to the forums to ask if my Wii got the red ring of death. I'll always remember that one :p

Yeah, typical problem with switching games, using wrong controls. Means I'll be trying to switch weapons out of sight and end up dropping a grenade at my feet, that kind of thing.

Just a moment ago in TF2 I was prancing around enemy dispensers sapping stuff like crazy while there was three engies whacking their wrenches. Then I pressed the wrong button and fiddled around with my knife for one slash and got blasted by a SG. Luckily I took my dead Ringer out just in time and barely escaped the scene. Then for some mind blowing reason I did all that again only this time I died and finally snapped back into my gaming mind started playing like a decent player would.

The only time I have had this happen was switching between Halo 2 and Halo 3. The control schemes in those games are completely different. While trying to reload I find myself throwing a grenade at a wall only to find it sticking to my shin.

In Halo multiplayer I would frequently get the drop on my opponent then start frantically jumping up and down instead of firing, having forgotten there are buttons underneath the controller as well.

I.. don't play X-box games that often, and ones that use the trigger buttons even less.

I'd been playing Saint's Row 2 for quite some time, then switched to playing Grand Theft Pony, and while adjusting to the new controls, I tried to get my horse to drift, then laughed at my stupidity and accidentally pushed the left trigger making me throw that fire bottle I had pulled out when trying to drift.

Thinking you have smoke grenades, and accidentally tossing a flashbang at the flag you're trying to capture.

I do this ridiculously often.

This is actually my favourite way to get rid of enemies with Halo 2 online. I'll run at them and rump JUST after throwing a plasma grenade. My friends hate me for popping out of nowhere and sticking a grenade on them. Or chasing them down with a grenade on my chest that they threw.
