What's is your opinion on the sport known as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). It's commonly called cage-fighting, ultimate fighting, no holds barred, human cockfighting, and many other colorful names. Some hate it, some love it.

I for one am an enormous fan, and I enjoy training in it whenever possible. The sport is responsible for expanding my martial arts knowledge and allowing me to see two trained and skilled martial artists clash. Through MMA I've discovered and trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the value of wrestling skills, and Muay Thai kickboxing, all of which I've added ontop of my Tae Kwon Do background. I love to fight, and I especially love watching fights between skilled opponenets.

My idols in the sport include Anderson Silva, George St. Pierre, Joyce Gracie, Kenny Florian, and Michael Bisping.

Other people are really against it and find it barbarious and immoral, which I definetly disagree with.

What's your opinion? Got any favorite fights? Fighters? Organizations? Do you hate it? Do you love it? Discuss.

Im afraid to say im the idea of nerd personfied so aspiring to be these men as slightly out of my reach. I watch the fights on sky sports and its great to see two guys going at it (unlike some boxing fights where its all about the points). I heard whispers of a game coming out of UFC.

That's already in full development and is almost done. I've seen footage and it looks fantastic, though I hope they have a custom character creation in it, otherwise I'll be really dissapointed.

I appreciate it from what it is. To me it is a sport, and I rather watch MMA where the fight is most often than not stopped when a fighter is not intelligently defending himself that continuously watch beatings in boxing.

Granted; it is a dangerous sport, but to each their own, but so far it is well regulated, save for some stupid shit about what means the "back of the head"(hopefully they'll fix that) things seem to be progressing smoothly.

My idols in the sport include Anderson Silva, George St. Pierre, Joyce Gracie, Kenny Florian, and Michael Bisping.
I respect a lot those guys you just mentioned (good to see someone things good of Kenny, that guy is a workhorse) but I'm kinda torn about Royce Gracie because of the situation around his last fight with Sakuraba (Gracie was on drugs). I'm sure the guy wants to stay competitive at his age, but that's not necesary. If it's not there anymore then it's not there, he shouldn't do that to himself.

Other people are really against it and find it barbarious and immoral, which I definetly disagree with.
I do think it is barbarious but nor immoral, and neither are the "the sweet science" or football-as it's called in the U.S- where you get 200 pund guys slamming against each other head first (you could factually argue that both of those sports are more) for money. The point is, that we're a violent lot, and as an outlet as well as an art it works. Also as a civilian environment where the art can evolve organically.

Just think this scenario: You have a daughter and you want to make sure she knows how to defend herself with stuff that has been tried and tested in an evolving environment. Where do you turn to?

What's your opinion? Got any favorite fights? Fighters? Organizations? Do you hate it? Do you love it? Discuss.
I just like to watch, really. I watch what they put on but so far I'm a bit on the cautious side with Elite XC and how they handle their fighters (poor KJ Noons), I hope DREAM does Ok, and have my eggs in Affliction's basket now that they have signed a deal with Golden Boy promotions.

I enjoy watching Quinton Jackson(though he's a little insane), Mauricio Rua, Randy Couture, St. Pierre, etc. and somehow I'm strangely delighted when Chuck Lidell loses(I'm not saying I'm right, I'm just saying I like to watch him lose).

I really do hope the UFC become more accommodating of Fedor, I mean, the guy is surely not going to sign an exclusive deal like the one they were offering him because besides MMA he has other responsibilities like being a Master of Sports at Sambo and basically being an ambassador of it in competitions. The guy likes doing stuff for mama Russia, that's a fact.

I voted "It's not a real sport" just to screw with Ares Tyrs head. But in reality I don't know much about the profesional side of MMA/UFC, nor do I watch it (It's never on where I live anyway). I did do Brazilian Juijitsu for a while (My teacher person learned from Joyce Gracie), but I have now forgotten almost everything except for the Guilotine and Triangle choke holds. I've even forgotten how to do the paintprush (Very simple move involving your opponents wrists)

I was learning BJJ under Elvis Sinosec and Anthony Perosh, two who have had their shots at UFC, but were never successful enough. Sinosec's last fight was against Bisping, in which he was trounced. It's odd watching them in training, when they're unstoppable gods of the mat, still going at it strong up to the half hour mark against fresh sparring partners, then watching them on TV and seeing them get tired out after a round or two.

I've stopped watching and training of late, which is a shame, as they're both heaps of fun.

Pro wrestling is better. It allows for cooler moves and storylines, proving my theory that states: fake sports > real sports.

I was unaware of Joyce's drug use. But to be honest, I have him as a hero because of what he did early in the sport. He proved that a small guy can beat stronger and larger opponents with skill and courage, which I admire. I haven't kept up with any of his recent fights. Anderson Silva is definetly my all time favorite though. And I forgot to mention Fedor, who is definetly the greatest fighter on the planet along with Anderson Silva.

I'd also like to see Fedor in the UFC, because in my opinion, the UFC had the best talent pool in the world as far as it goes. There's a handful of fighters out of it (mostly Japanese fighters and Fedor) and if Dana would losen the chains, he'd have alot of heavy hitting fights in the future.

I'd also wish White would loosen his views on females in MMA, because women fighters are some of the most exciting fighters I've seen. Dana White is kind of old fashioned with that, but I'd like to see it somewhere more consitant than Bodog Fight and Elite XC. But whatever.

i love mma, been watching it for a while, always liked combat sports. i find boxing rather boring tho and karate and kung fu stuff are rather boring.

as for my favorite fighters

Randy Couture - he's just awesome
Jeff Joslin - i drink beer with him sometimes
Forrest Griffin - i know him and his original trainers
Rosi Sexton - i know her husband Karl, not sure who i'm more afraid of tho
Wanderlai - well more the old pride version
Fedor - he's a cyborg
Quinten - more his pre-born again self tho, he was way funnier then
Bas "El Guapo" Rutten - who can't like him?
Sakuraba - not been as good lately
Genki Sudo - best entrances ever, check them out on you tube, also he's a darn cool person

tho my all time fave is GSP he's awesome AND he's canadian

Well, that's kind of the point. Royce did a lot in the early years of the sport and helped popularize the use of brazillian jiujitsu and had fantastic fights with sakuraba, but in their last fight (which was in the U.S) he was on drugs and he won by points (and apparently Sakuraba didn't know the fight was just 3 rounds) and the result wasn't overturned because of some commission regulations or whatever. It was pretty sad.

Nobody can take from him his achievements but testing positive in a doping test can sure cast a cloud on him. I mean- and this is not just about Royce-think of a guy that has an all out fight and wins, leaving his opponent severely hurt and in critical condition and then everyone realizes he happened to be on drugs. Just imagine the problem.

Yeah, me too, but Fedor sees himself as more than just another MMA fighter. He himself said that if he didn't have to fight because it is his job he probably wouldn't do it- besides he has a lot on his plate, always.

dude, anybody can hit somebody in the face and hope to hurt them. anybody can try to break someone's leg and hope they won't walk away. Real skill is making things LOOK like they hurt while keeping them as safe as possible

so true. But in all honesty, the guys in wrestling do seem to bust themselves up more than even MMA guys. They just happen to be performing a story or whatever where the end happens to be predetermined.

It's what I call stuntman theater.

Allow me to throw my hat in with you.

That's not to say that MMA is bad or anything, but WWE just makes it so much more fun.

Yeah, that's a pretty valid point. BUT those guys are actually throwing each other around and being massively hurt.

I have come to understand the concept of opinions. I don't like wrestling because its basically a way for 'straight' men and hormone injected girls to watch a soap opera played out between glistening slabs of man meat.

MMA is for people who enjoy watching actual fights played out between two individuals skilled in the ways of hand to hand combat. WWE is like watching a movie. MMA is like watching a chess match. Its two totally different things and I don't consider them related at all. Boxing and MMA have more in common than MMA and pro-wrestling ever will.

So I could care less if you like Pro-wrestling more. You might as well say you like watching Days of Our Lives more than you like watching MMA in my opinion.
