So this was more a thing like 2-3 years ago, but it's still around. I noticed for a while a lot of games were doing some sort of unit management/grinding thing where you go into a menu, allocate resources to an unseen mission, then wait an allotted time period to receive the spoils. You see this a lot in free mobile games but there are a number of AAA games that have things like this integrated into them to varying degrees.

Some examples include MGS5's mother base, Dragon Age Inquisition's war table, and Assassin's Creed 2-4 all had this in some manner with naval fleets or assassin trainees or something.

Does anyone actually like these? I'm genuinely curious to hear some opinions.

They are horrible in model games, but they kind of work in AAA games. It's because you don't have to sit around waiting for them to finish. They just finish on their own well your off playing the game.

Makes sense in Xcom as time itself is a valuable resource. Not so much in Dragon Age: Drinkquisition as it's merely a faf-around and amuse yourselves while we pretend that someone is really working hard for you. Especially when they return with only their own bum-fluff and a handful of dead grass to show for it.
