I'm looking to buy one of the two, and have been looking at some of the posts about MW2, where numerous people believe that the former still remains superior. So does new necessarily mean better? Curious as to what you think.

Edit: Sorry that this thread has been done multiple times, I did use the search bar and examined the first page of results, and nothing appeared to relate to this so I posted this topic. Obviously I have to be on here a lot more and check multiple pages of results, so have learned from my mistake. Thanks to those who actually posted relevant information though, instead of SEARCH BAR!!!!

The story in MW1 was more fluid, and the flashbacks added a lot of background as to what was going on in the present. Plus the PC multiplayer is just better.

Buy MW1 initially and then, if you liked it, buy the 2nd. Derp.

EDIT: I'm gonna go ahead and take it as a given that you'll buy the PC version of said game. The alternative doesn't even bear thinking about...

MW2 is better. They improved on just about everything, except dedicated servers.

This, the first is cheaper.
But where I live, only by £5. Seriously, MW second-hand, £35, MW 2 new £40.

OT: MW2 as it has a better SP then MW.

I like both :D

MW2 has a cooler multiplayer, but its campaign doesn't come close to recreating the awesome All Ghillied Up mission. Completed both on veteran (Y).

Maybe they just don't spend an unholy amount of time on the forums...

OT: Neither, get Dragon Age.

I've seen this thread twice today already. I'd get MW2 as I think there will be more people playing it soon.

Well that all depends what your playing on but I'd say if your getting the PC anyway get MW1 as it is far superior multiplayer to MW2 as 2 lacks dedicated servers and so more that is a no brainer part don't even need to play it to know that and for singleplayer I have only heard bad things about the plot of the second so I suppose first wins here.

I haven't played the second though for obvious reasons..

I did a search and didn't find any topic related to this (though admittedly I only checked the first page of results) but I do apologize then if that's the case.

I haven't gotten the 2nd one, I've played about half an hour of TDM on PC and loved it though.... MW1 is most definitely an amazing fps and if you're going to buy one first get the first one first.... Kind of self explanatory isn't it?

Oh and btw, search bar

Im trying not to, but: SEARCH BAR!

That aside MW1 is possibly one of my favourite FPS games ever.
MW2 just didn't feel the same.

In fact, I think i'll go play MW1 right now.

Ok, I'm going to go ahead and say, "Search Bar." Mostly because I just posted this very same topic like, yesterday. I searched myself, and found nothing that I felt compared the two (and I was ignorant of other names that MW2 and MW1 go by). But this, coming on the heels of my thread? Search bar, hun. :) Search bar.

MW1, superior and more Balanced (in ocmparison) multiplayer, better single player, and has dedicated servers+MODIFICATIONS

I'm still playing my zombie mod, paint ball mod, and extra weapon mods on that game. In fact i'ma go beat All Ghillied up on Veteran again...

Elaborate. Because that just screams wrong to me. Fragx3 was the most unbalanced piece of shit for perk 1. Retards spawn and just lob three grenade regardless what map it was, hoping to get kills (Fucking hated that shit on Wet Work). Don't get me wrong, MW1 is an awesome game, but MW2 got rid of the annoying bullshit (Nade launchers still suuuuuuuuuuck). There's more strategy with the extra killstreak choices, riot shield, blast shield, tactical insertion, semtex, throwing knife. The list goes on.

MW2 multiplayer improved on everything from the first one. And in all honesty, is more balanced. Just about every perk is useful in this game, all you needed in MW1 was stopping power with steady aim or deep impact and you top the charts. Everything else you unlocked was pretty much a waste of your time.

I'd buy 1.

As a comparison compare MW1 and 2 to the Matrix and the Matrix Reloaded. One has a few slightly rough edges, but does something nobody had really seen before, it doesn't outstay it's welcome and you'll want to see it again (and again).
The sequel takes what made the first a success and exagerates then repeats it massively, the result is techincally excellent, highly polished and completely formulaic. There's very little actually wrong with it, but the end result is forgettable.

As a single player experience 1 will stick with you longer than 2, as a multiplayer game 2 is better for Xbox and PS3 (no martyrdom! More stuff), whilst 1 is vastly better for the PC (server admins, less lag, faster game entry, less cheaters, user maps). Just decide which you want more in a game.
