Poll: Modern Warfare 3 Sunglasses, Really?

Please do some research before you go bashing a company, hell read the damn article you linked. Infinity Ward isn't making these. A company named Gunnar Optiks is, and they have been producing these "gaming" glasses since 2005.

These aren't sunglasses though. I had a look at Gunnar Optiks website and their bread and butter seems to be making glasses to help reduce eyestrain for people that work with computers all day. Most of the stuff of theirs I could see were in the 100 bucks range as well, so it doesn't really look like they're jacking the price just because of the MW3 branding.

A handful of webmd type websites seem to suggest eyewear to reduce computer eyestrain, so the idea isn't totally ridiculous it would seem. But ya know, mention modern warfare on the escapist forums and you can pretty much expect a sea of hatred.

Both of these are the truth. Those glasses are basically the same thing as those suede toecapped boots that were in fashion a few years ago; dolled up safety wear. I'm tempted to get a cheap pair for all night lab sessions and whatnot, last time I pulled an all night programming session I felt like my eyes were melting.

These glasses are in principle a good idea. People who look at screens all day can really benefit and yes, that includes gamers. Gamers frequently top the most intensive computer workers in sheer hours and those workers have a plethora of safety guidelines. Literally the only difference is that you're gaming for fun.

But in retrospect, They aren't bad looking glasses. I'd probably use them if I owned them. But I wouldn't freaking get them for the purpose they're intended for. Tooooo funny.

I'm a might bit tempted to look into something like that myself. Between school and work and games I bet I'm looking at some form of computer screen for 10-14 hours a day. I bet there are folks here that nail down about that just gaming, so I totally see what you're saying. Probably not getting the MW3 ones though, bit too flash for me.

They're Gunnars. $80-100 is pretty standard. I`m actually surprised they didn't up the price for the MW3 branding, so really. Nothing too surprising. I`m not interested in Gunnars, but those that are might spring for the MW3's.

As much as people like to rag on the CoD community for being a bunch of kids, seeing everyone here flip shit over 100 dollar glasses kinda makes me think the average age of this thread is about 16. Like you pointed out, its pretty in-line with what you see for most eye-wear.

I don't see anything new with these MW3 Gunnars. They done the same things when Black Ops was release (http://www.gunnars.com/shop/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops-Pro-Gaming-Glasses.html). I did buy the Black Ops glasses not because of the game but I was interested in trying a pair of Gunnars and the Black Ops were cheaper than a basic pair. I think I got them as a preorder with online vouchers for ~£20 rather than the £50+ I would have cost for an unbranded pair. I'm not sure about all the other crap about making you a better gamer but they did reduce my eyestrain when using monitors all day at work and then how ever many more hours at home. Are they worth £60 is up to you and how much you use monitors.

About cost I bought a pair of Bolle polarized sunglasses for £130, that was 12 years ago and there no reason to replace them yet. You can buy a cheap ass crap pair for £10 every year with little to no protection or a quality pair for £100+ with all the UV protection that will last for many years. Option is yours but I'll pay extra to protect my eyes.

And Infinity Ward isn't making them, that's true, but who do you think gave Gunnar Optiks permission to start producing them? I love Infinity Ward, and I'm as much easily annoyed by people who scream at any attempt on the end of a company to make money as anyone else. (ZOMG GAMESTOP TOOK THE CODES OUT OF DEUS EX I WANT A DISCOUNT!) I just read an article and simply thought it would be interesting to see how other people react, and I'm having a lovely time picturing the Head of the Marketing department hearing of an idea like Sunglasses for gaming and thinking "ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT."

I'd like to point out that I think it's obvious that these glasses already exist, and people have heard of them, they can be bought for roughly the same price so is it worth it? In a business sense, probably not. Anyone who's already heard of them either has some, or doesn't really want them. The only way I see a profit out of this would be bundling it with a Special Edition of some sort. It's eerily reminiscent of the Rock Band "Pro" Guitar that I never even saw on the shelves. I'm not angry, I'm laughing, I think this is completely hilarious.
