Poll: Moral Choices

For example, Star Wars. Man, the Rebels are just as bad as the Imperials. The only difference is that they show all the Rebels as noble heroes and all the Imperials as cartoony villains. The whole conflict is way more shades of gray than the movies show.

That's what I liked a lot about KOTOR actually. For the movies at least, the jedi and republic are pretty much the pure good guys and the Empire is all moustache-twirling villainy, and KOTOR plays that completely straight for your character as well. Which makes KOTOR 2 even better when it turns that completely on its head.

I just looked at it like this, for someone reading the thread, which is more interesting to see: A couple of people mentioning how Witcher 2 takes "moral choices" to a whole new level or seeing a few people go back and forth about the nuts and bolts of how great it is implemented?

I am always evil. It's not so much an active pursuit to be evil when it comes to moral choice systems, it just happens that all the evil options sound more appealing (and more fun) than any good options.

Ah, finally something for me to disagree with

Witcher 2 doesn't take "moral choices" to a whole new level, it actually kind brings them back to basics.

Ever since they started touting moral choices as a big feature, they've actually lost quality.

They became more black or white, the consequences have been downplayed and the effects have become more directly linked to the gameplay. I think moral choices should be mostly linked to the story and only tangentially to gameplay.

I mean, if I want to play an extremely heroic person who happens to also be extremely intimidating, that should depend mostly on my character's skills.

However, if Random NPC #1 just saw my nerdy little character shoot his friend in the gonads to get some info he should spill the beans as soon as I point my .233 pistol at him.

Moral choices should add to your character development, not replace it.

I can't be classified to either. Neutral would mean i have a balance, and i wasn't on anybodies side...I'm both a mixture of a paragon of mercy and a sadistic pyschopath. I'd say good since i'm nice to everyone i meet but when somebody tries to fuck with me i turn them into a puddle of blood which would make me evil. Also i'm incredibly oppurtunistic and stab anyone in the back or steal stuff if nobody is looking.

Always the good guy at first because that is who I am. Although I always play as a prick so I can kill for rare items. So shiny.
