I'm getting pretty sick of all this talk of franchises. Ever since Yahtzee mentioned the abundance of sequels around, you people* just can't shut up about it, as if continuing a game series is a new phenomenon. When in the history of video games has there not been scores of sequels? Seriously. Maybe like the fifth generation had more original games than today, since a lot of new consoles came out a new technologies making new types of game play available, but since then, not so much... I mean come on, how is last year the "year of the sequels" any more than 2006 or 2005?
And I love how you guys equate creativity with a new game series, as if most new series aren't constantly ripping off the more established franchises. Like not having the number 2 behind a first person shooter is gonna make it play vastly different than all other corridor shooters.
To answer your poll: yes, I'd like more creative games (Duh who wouldn't? Fundamentalist gamers?). But creative and not-a-sequel are not the same thing.
