So I have this habbit of removing the Caps lock key whenever I get a new keyboard. Litteraly the first thing I do is to ripp that thing off. As far as I am concerned, it is a totally useless key to me and just in the way.
But this made me think of all the other useless keys on there, and there are a few I would not exactly miss.
I mean, when was last you used scroll lock?

However there may be people that use these keys so I am wondering, which key could you easily do without?

I agree; caps lock doesn't really do anything you couldn't already do by just perpetually pushing Shift.

You just take it off?

As in, leave an empty space?
Oh my God, that would drive me insane. XD

I've never really given much thought to the keys I don't use.

I would have voted for Pause/Break but my current keyboard doesn't have that (and I only JUST noticed thanks to this thread). Back in the late '80s and early '90s, that key was quite useful when software went wonky.

Seeing as I don't have the aforementioned key, I'm voting "other." The winner is?

Caps Lock was in the running until I installed a mod that made the C key stop working properly in Left 4 Dead 2. Now I need that thing. >.>

I think it's probably either Num Lock or Scroll Lock now.

...There's some weird-looking thing that doesn't seem to do anything...and I've got one here that makes the little window come up. That's handy.

Probably the following three characters, as well as the AltGr key:

`¬¦

Brackets and semi-colons are really useful for programming though, and I always get massively upset when using a new keyboard because the manufacturer will inevitably move it around to a stupid place. I also don't really use the numeric keypad, but to remove it would be a cardinal sin due to Civilization nostalgia.

I answered "scroll lock" in the poll, but then I looked at my keyboard and the scroll lock key is actually also the F12 key on here, with scroll lock being a function of F12, so I guess the answer is "Pause Break" because for some reason that gets a key of its own.

For me it's Num Lock, not only do I never actually need to use the number keys for direction it's terrible placing ensures I randomly tap it every now and then and get all weirded out as my excel sheet goes crazy.

Pause Break and Scroll Lock are useless but they don't get in my way at least.

Had to go with Pause Break. I never use Scroll Lock, mind you, but at least Scroll Lock has the humility to sit next to the F keys. Pause Break is sitting all the way on its own. Who does it think it is, putting itself above the Home and Delete keys?

Ctrl on the right hand side. Barring certain games where right and left ctrl's are mapped individually its just weird

That and F7. Fuck F7

The command key. I have an Apple keyboard because I used to have a Mac, but I recently got a Windows machine, so now my command key basically behaves as a Windows key, which is completely useless. I don't access the start menu often enough to necessitate a button dedicated to it, and when I do want the start menu it's easy enough just to slide my cursor to as far left and down it can go and click.

I've actually used Caps Lock as my Toggle Run/Walk in games when I don't feel like always holding down Shift for one or the other. Not to mention, it is excellent for when I have to type with a lot of capital letters all at once, which occasionally comes in handy for the titles of certain games and movies.

Overall, I think the tilde key is the most useless. I'm not entirely sure that I've ever used it in my entire life.

Scroll lock and num lock are on the same key on my laptop, so yeah. I actually use my ` key quite a bit to bring up the console in Steam games and other places.

My keyboard has a button on the top left corner of the keypad labelled "clear".

I have no idea what it does.

EDIT: Hang on, I just figured it out. It works like 'delete', but only deletes highlighted text instead of deleting forwards or backspacing. It also acts as a CLR key when using this one calculator widget. Still useless as hell.

The rightmost Enter key. My hands already refuse to go over to the right side of the keyboard to use the numbers, I don't need a separate Enter key likely intended to make using that number section easier to use.

Strangely enough, a lot of keys that are usually useless to me were made useful in Dark Souls, as you use shit like insert and delete in the menus for things. I've also been using page up/down and pause for some of the older FPS games. I don't think I've ever in my entire life used scroll lock though, so I'm going to go with that.

My keyboard has a dedicated Windows Media Center key. I've never touched it, so I don't even know if it's bound to a program by default.

But of the normal keys, scroll lock would be the most useless for me. I use Caps Lock at work quite a bit. I've used pretty much every other key on my keyboard at some time as well.
