And if you think that a general Black Metal tag could go on just any band, that just shows me how little you know about metal.
Oh, an "unholier than thou" elitist. Take that shit to Youtube where it belongs.
Awesome! Someone who knows nothing about metal, but attempts to criticize me anyway!
Calling me an elitist isn't going to change the fact that you're wrong, bud.
I think he was going on at the fact that metalheads often act all elitess about obscure bands and look down on anyone who likes popular bands who they view as having sold out. I gathered all this from some thread yesterday.

I called you an elitist because your comment reeked of "I'm better than you." I said the the genre "suicidal depressive" black metal sounded stupid and a simple "black metal" should be sufficient. You decided that the difference was so obvious I should know of it, and decided to belittle me instead of trying to explain it.
Mayhaps being an ass wasn't your intention, but that's certainly what you achieved. Way to go.
The only ass here would have to be you, seeing as you're not accepting the fact that you don't know what you're talking about. Go to any metal-centric forum to chat with people who've been listening to metal for 10+ years, and I guarantee you, you'd be laughed offstage.
Simply put, if you don't like being corrected, stop quoting me.
I've been listening to metal for 10+ years, thank you. I'm sure a lot of other people on THIS site have as well. I wonder if they know the difference between "suicidal depressive black metal" and regular black metal.
I don't mind being corrected, so long as I learn something from it. So, explain the difference and we can end this farce.
Ok. I'll explain the two in my own words.
Black Metal (2nd Wave) - A genre of Extreme Metal whose signature sound mostly consists of highly-distorted, tremolo-picked guitar riffs with a far higher range of pitch than Thrash Metal. Vocals consist mostly of hoarse screams, warcrys, and demonic-sounding chants. Drums can range anywhere from 4/4 rock beats (
Det Som Engang Var) to 180bpm Thrash-style blast beats (
Sons of Northern Darkness) Lyrics are mostly centered around Satanism, War, and Norse/Pagan culture.
Bands - Burzum, Immortal, Mayhem, etc.
Depressive Black Metal - A sub-genre of 2nd-Wave Black Metal whose signature sound mostly consists of slower-tempo (~80bpm), highly-distorted sustains and power chords.
Note that the band Leviathan is one of the few exceptions to the slower-tempo rule, as his music I view as more of a fusion between Black and Depressive Black. Vocals mostly consist of long, drawn-out, and high-pitched shrieks. Drums usually consist of basic doom beats (ride+bass, ride, ride+snare, ride) or Burzum-style 4/4 rock beats at a steady tempo with the rest of the music. Lyrics center around Nihilism, Despair, Misanthropy, and Insanity.
Bands - Xasthur, Leviathan, Silencer, etc.
