I resent that.
I really enjoyed Twilight Princess, love the hell out of Okami, burned days playing Metroid Prime 1-3, and still play my Wii during the week.
Yes, there are a lot of casual games for the Wii, but there are also lots of casual games for the 360 and PS3; abusing the kinect and move features. People that think Nintendo is nothing but casual games and 10 year olds, really piss me off. Half of the people I have the "pleasure" of playing with on xblive sound like they are 8-12 years old.

I'll get Doritos every once and a while when I feel like it, but I won't suddenly buy $100 worth of chips just for the sake of exp.

Oh joy, another thread talking about how games like COD, or "casual" games like the Wii's library are ruining the quality of games as a whole.

Get off your high horse. Just because you don't like somthing or don't want to buy it doesn't mean it's bad.

As for me, I don't plan on buying MW3. But not because I'm part of the anti-COD bandwagon, I'm just not interested in it what's so ever.
I didn't start this tread to bash the wii or casual gaming, I gave my opinion on the matter to better show the direction I was coming from, with regards to to MW3, and its marketing strategy, which I see as blatant pandering to attract casual players. I don't have a problem with casual gamers or anyone unless they are somehow harming someone else or something that will affect someone else.

My problem with this strategy is that it is a SHORTCUT, that short-circuits the development of skill in the player and undercuts any feeling of accomplishment. and my fear is that if this approach is viewed as a success, that it will become a trend that will spread, for lack of a less cheesy term, far and wide.

note I did not say casual gamers, but the people and companies pandering to them. I have a wii and a DS, which i bought specifically to play smash bros. zelda, and fire emblem, I tried to like it too but i cant shake the feeling I would have preferred them on the gamecube. My problem with the Wii is what its stands for, at least to me: nintendo's forsaking of the people on which its success is built, the people (like me) that tried to stick with it and buy their products even though every time they would the characters and franchises they so desperately wanted to like seemed to have their attention elsewhere like someone divorcing their wife because they are too old and remarrying someone 20 years younger.

And no significant amount of people are going to buy $100 worth of chips, its not supposed to work like that. The strategy is designed to that people eating the chips who wouldn't have bought the game consider buying it because of the decrease in perceived effort on their part.

I have always thought that Nintendo caters to it's fans more than any other developer - especially since they are throwing so much free stuff at me because I bought a 3DS on the first day it was out - but I am quite biased, since my N64 and GBA are practically my second set of parents.

As to your concern about Nintendo selling more games to casuals than srs gamers like us, it is more than likely true. Hell, every time I go into my local EB Games, and look at the Wii/DS section, my eyes glaze over the hundreds of titles that look like they were made for 5 year olds, and are drawn to the grittier or flashy games.
To be fair though, independent developers may try to make games for a specific age group and fan base, but large companies like Nintendo have to focus on one thing: making money. How they do that doesn't really matter in the end, but if they can make a lot of money by making games for a group of potential gamers, then why shouldn't they? Microsoft and Sony have followed Nintendo's example; every game on Kinect and Move is designed for the casual gamer. There are very very few cases where the Kinect and Move actually work for a non-casual game, but that is the case with new technology like the Kinect and Move. The only games on the Wii that actually works with motion controls (that I have seen) are Metroid Prime 3, Okami (even that is iffy at times), and Twilight Princess. I think Resistance 3 was supposed to support Move (I don't own a PS3, or follow most Sony news), but are serious gamers interested in that? I think not.

TL;DR: Don't bash Nintendo for making a smart business move that makes them lots of money, good games still get made, they are just not the main constituent these days.

Im not saying its not a good business plan on Nintendo's part, the casual market was an unexplored goldmine before the wii. But just because its a good way to make money does not mean i have to support it, or agree with it. As a consumer it is my right to complain if i feel the provider has somehow slighted me, or promote something i have a vested interest in, and its their right to dismiss me as a minority, thats how capitalism works.
Good game do get made, and good games will always get made, my concern is how many.

side note, I dont like the Wii or what it stands for, but i HATE PS Move and Kinect - the Wii was a daring and innovative change, Kinect and Move (and 3D) are just sony and microsoft trying to get in on the action

I don't get what the problem is with the Doritos thing.

I mean, what's the penalty here, we get to eat chips?

I will buy it since I am praying they will surprise me and it will not be the same dissapointment as the other three games on my shelf which are in the series.

I would say just don't bother. The CoD games have been going downhill since MW1.

MW1 was great, with pacing and juxtaposition all around, but MW2 was the total opposite. It was a collection of Micheal Bay films strung together, in which you must hold down the R Trigger and push the Left Thumbstick forward to watch.

MW3 looks like it will be even worse and BF3 in my opinion also sucks, just not as hard. Both games have a problem with the multi-player where there isn't really any skill involved, it's just a game of who-sees-who first. The first person to be seen is the first to die, end of story.

Totally not bashing. Nope.

Also, what does it matter that people earn a few extra EXP through eating chips? Everyone who doesn't buy Doritos can easily catch up by simply playing the game. So I don't really see what the big deal is.

EDIT: Also this "trend" you are talking about. I'm pretty sure this isn't anything new. What with Pre-order bonuses for some games.

Ok. I dont like the Wii, Kinect, PS Move, or 3D and find them gimmicky and solutions to problems that didn't exist. I am paranoid, that in the search for money, people could hurt something I care about. And perhaps making a mountain out of a molehill.

But this is not a thread about me, or the wii, it's about MW3, something I was going to spend $60 but now not going to buy it, for whatever reason. I'm not trying to tell anyone how to spend their money, and if it sounds that way I apologize. I just want to know if people were going to buy it, why or why not? And to encourage discussion, I gave my own opinion as well some additional info to contextualize it.

Now if you are finished calling me out on having an opinion, I would prefer not to derail the tread any further.

If I am going to get MW, I'll get it the week after christmas at my local Target. That one week they slash $20 off new or popular games. This means I'll only spend $30- $40(depending if I get a gift card from work). I think $30-$40 is fair for MW3. NOT $60.
toughen up princess in Australia every new game is at least $100. MW3 is $128. i wish i could get it new for $60 so stop whining.

Hey, man. I never mentioned anything about Australia but yeah, your prices are rough over there. Based on American prices I was saying that MW3 should not be listed for for retail price. Nor does it deserve to be listed at full retail price anywhere else, including Australia.

Also $100-128? is it because of import costs or something or taxes?

Next thing you know Price will be saying "Trying to find Makarov has made me hungry and thirsty Soap! I know, lets have some Doritos and Mountain Dew! It's delicious!"

In all seriousness I find the recent COD games pretty average, but they are so damn addictive! So yes I will buy MW3, but I do think that this Doritos/Mountain Dew thing is ridiculous. Kinda defeats the whole notion of "Gaming is not just for kids! It is for adults too!"

I'll put it to you like this.

MW3 will be the first Call of Duty game I won't buy new if at all. I want to play the campaign, so I might just borrow it from someone. My friends will get the game on the Xbox and the PS3, so there's no trouble playing split-screen. Split-screen is the only serious enjoyment I get out of the recent Call of Duty games as far as multiplayer goes. I have to spam the noobtube or knife people in wager matches to get fun from online multiplayer.

I don't really care if other people seriously use doritos and mountain dew to level up. Levels in Call of Duty are just measures of how much time you dumped into the game, and in no way accurately reflect skill. Most of the best guns are unlocked right from the start, so it's not like it'll be on unequal footing. Overall, it's just a really stupid attempt to make money. Although, honestly, I prefer them trying to sell doritos rather than DLC, but I know Activision isn't going to do anything to actually improve the game with all that extra money. They'll probably just add another fee to access the game's P2P service.
