Hey guys, I got an idea for a game today that I think could be pretty sweet. Name of the game is "Scope". It will have three separate campaigns that each follow the career of one of history's greatest snipers. The Scene is WWII (I know, it's overused but I'm going to make it work) Start in a german Boot Camp (Training level), playing as Erwin Konig. Progress through this section of the game, and for the finale, the Battle of Stalingrad. You've been sent to kill Vasili Zaitsev, one of the USSR's top snipers. fight through the battle and at the end, cut scene. You get shot by Zaitsev (Like in RL). After you get shot, the camera rewinds and follows the bullet back to Zaitsev, WANTED style. He goes through a little monologue and flashback to his earlier days. Second Campaign, you play through the events that lead up to the Battle of Stalingrad. You then kill Konig, and another cutscene rolls. Something to the tune of "This war has been hell, but I've made it through. The constant fighting takes it's horrible toll on everyone, but I seem to have been able to come out on top, or at least, close to the top.(At this point the camera is zoomed out to see all of Eurasia) For there is one man that I could not match. (camera slowly starts to zoom in) He has many names, but is know by my people as "Belaya Smert" or simply, "The White Death" (Camera zooms in and merges with an artillery shell, follows it all the way to the ground where it explodes, smoke everywhere) This is the story of that man." And for the Third and final campaign, Enter Simo Häyhä, greatest sniper to ever live. Over 705 confirmed kills at the least. We then follow him through the entire Winter War, the Soviet Union's invasion of Finland. Then finally, at the end of the game, you get shot in the jaw, and are carried of by your fellow soldiers. You go into a coma for a week and wake up in a hospital and hear a radio saying "The war is over". Credits roll and then it's Multi-player time.
I would try to make it as realistic as humanly possible, with an extra focus on weather, (A lot of the game would full of snow) and I would want guns to be customizable with scopes, stocks, barrels, the works.

So I guess that's it. Tell me what you think. Thanks for reading

The game sounds very good and well structured. The only problem would be gameplay; how do you keep a whole game full of sniping fresh? Especially since it's based on the historical actions of particular people, so you can't make them do crazy shit they never did. Well, you could, but I atleast wouldn't.

YES.
This would make much fun.

I don't think 3 people would cut it for the story mode, though.

A lot of camera zooming, me no like. Plus snipers do 2 things: wait and observe, with very little in between. A game oriented around camping might suit some people, but not me.

The thing is, a lot of them did do crazy shit. There was actually a soldier in the winter war who destroyed a Russian tank with a crowbar. As for keeping it fresh, I'm not sure but i suppose a mixed element of constant mortar fire, tanks, camouflage and the environments could help.

Destroyed a tank with a crowbar? I gotta look that up. Well anyway, I'm sure the game could be interesting and fun, and I highly suggest you pursue this idea in every way possible and get it out there. I would play it.

Try playing Sniper Elite for a taste of what this game could be like. There are lots of problems with omnipotent AI, but overall it's a cool concept and manages to keep things pretty fun. It's especially fun in co-op, when one player can act as the spotter and another takes the shot.

Basically, your game sounds like Sniper Elite but way more awesome. I'd hit it.

Sounds like it would be interesting, and certainly a nice change from the gung-ho nature of most FPSs. I'd play it.

And I don't think the name "Scope" is that bad. It may not be great, but if you can't think of anything better it's pretty good.

Best. Anything. Ever.

OT, I think it's a good concept, though you were right when you said WWII has been a little overused. Still, I don't think anyone's ever done it quite like this. I'd probably play it. Sounds like a good game.

KICKASS concept, bad name. Something that's not a 1-word title.
I'm not very good with names, suggestions?
I dunno. I think the name is pretty good, but it's already been used. New Eden's premier news service is called Scope News. I'm not very good with names either though, so I can't help you. Just write down a bunch of sniping related names on a piece of paper (at least 20) and then try to narrow it down to one.

EDIT: Oh, and as for the idea, I'd love to play it. I love sniping, love WW2, love history in general, and it'd be a nice break from the standard FPS games that are coming out.

I was just thinking how to make the gameplay more fresh. For example with the Simo Hayha perspective, it would be just sniping people in a snowy forest, but if you get detected by soldiers, reinforcements could arrive, they could pin you down with gunfire, they could come after and hunt you. Ways to overcome this could be freedom in exploration. You could climb up a tree or bury yourself to hide and even set up environmental booby traps and distractions?
