This is such a non-comment... 'Stop whining' is hardly a good solution is it?

Comments like yours pop up whenever there are any criticisms against Steam, even when there are some valid issues that aren't addressed by Valve.

I like how you try to justify issues with Steam with what is essentially 'a lot of people are playing the same game'.

Alright then. You try running a massive network of servers that deliver games to people directly from the internet, develop AAA games and constantly update a client for purchasing games, talking to friends and playing those games so without there being any issues from time to time. I'll wait.

For the great prices they give us, I think bit of tolerance when a bug rears its head is not much to ask.

I do appreciate the difficulty of it (as I wrote in the email), but my gripe is the specific area they went wrong. The game is great, the pre-load was easy and the download went reasonably quickly. What annoys me is that the one area that went wrong to major inconvenience for me was purely a software issue where it decided it suddenly hated a portion of the data. In other words, everything went smoothly except the one thing I should have never had to worry about.

I can see where you're coming from, but that was probably their thoughts to, so maybe they've never looked at, nor expected, any possible issues of the kind you describe.

My only real qualm with steam is that I go to the store to buy a game so i have a hard copy. And If' its somehow flagged by steam..it defaults to DL in steam even off the disk. Why am i buying the game at the store if i have to sit around and wait for steam to dl/install it. Feels like im buying storebrand just for the serial code and a coaster. Sometimes i don't want to have to run steam to play games. -_- But all in all i guess it's a pretty good service. It's not perfect but not much is really.

You probably aren't their customer. At least, not their target market.

I have a 6gb limit on my internet

anyway I buy my games retail and somtimes I find out they run on steam so its not like I have a choice, (somtimes its a very rude shock if I happen to be low in data as well)

anyway depending on how old the game is there are obviously alot of updates, genreally they range from 200mb to 400mb which isnt too bad

then some games its 1gb+ as was the case with left 4 dead and F.E.A.R.2


Im probably never going to be able to play left 4 dead 2 as aparently its a 10gb download at this point

or team fortress 2 atill 6gb to go on that one

I dont know that the solution is but yeah the fact that I cannot play some of their games or even the game I bourght retail is annoying and somwhat unfair

It really only happens when I'm trying to download a map or something for a custom game online, but I have them quite frequently.

For me I have always had the issue of it installing my games without asking me. I delete the files to make some room, a week later they are back. No clue why. I have contacted support and they couldn't even figure it out, not that I was hoping for much.

For some reason whenever I open Steam, it finishes downloading AudioSurf. I've finished downloading AudioSuft many many times now.

Oh, and re-downloading the intro movies for Dawn of War. I deleted them for a damned reason.

Back in the day, when I lived in Australia I had a 512 cable connection. Amply fast enough for just about anything. It would take me no less than 5 hours from starting to getting Half-life 2 running. I HAD THE DAMN DVD's! No, I didn't d/l it. So that's why I've hardly used Steam in the last 5 years. I was hoping they've improved things, but now I'm on an even worse connection, so no. Especially with the crazy number of fucking updates and the loss of ability to LAN due to the ever-growing DRM craze going down. And yeah, everytime I see a complaint like mine come up and people say get over it, you spoiled child, etc. I'm a paying customer dammit, there are a lot of people like me who wish they could use Steam to purchase more games.

I bought Half Life 2 on cd, yes cd, on day one, trust me this is nothing. I couldn't play by store purchased game for a month. Steam is miles better than it used to be.

I'm pretty satisfied now because the game is completely awesome. I was ready to punch someone about 3 days ago but now I just recall the ending and smile.
