So I'll try and keep this short and sweet. My Xbox 360 yesterday flashed one part of red ring. Which is not the RRoD I understand. But it's a E 73, which means I still got to turn it in. But here is my problem. There is a local guy downtown that can do it for half the cash (I'm out of warranty) and probably same day. Should I go to him? or should I ship it to Microsoft and have them do it for more cash and a three week wait time? Oh and if it helps, I hear the guy has a good track record at his store. Thanks in advance.
EDIT
Okay, the guy's track record. 6 people Loved him, 5 stars. 2 hated him with one star. Saying that it broke again after he fixed it. But this sounds like a simple fix to me, it's not a RRoD, so I think he can do it right the first time.

The question is does he garantee his work. Because if he dosen't than it could break down a week or month after he repairs is and then you'll be S.O.L.

If he dosen't and your 360 does break down again, than Microsoft my not repair it if it had already been tampered with.

Well, is it just some guy, or is it a small business gaming shop or something? If it's some guy I would look into it some more first, but if it's a small business then do it for sure.

The thing is already bricked and he cant break it more. Go to him, if he cant do it you can send it into MS.

Its not true, MS doesn't give a shit about what's wrong with your consoles as long it doesn't look physically damaged. When my first 360 broke I had E74 problem and back then that wasn't covered by the 3 year extended RRoD, so I lied and told em mine was RRoD'd too and got it fixed for free.

Hmm the guy is sounding tempting, and my dad told me about him. I assume he found him on the internet. he's got a little store that specializes in this sorta thing

Well, as a 'veteran' of MS repairs with 3 RRoD's and four new consoles, I'd say plump for the repair guy. My fixes were free, god bless that three year warranty, but they always broke within a year or so again with exactly the same fault/loose or broken part.

So, basically what I'm saying is the guy in the shop who is cheaper.

I don't follow the phrase "you get what you pay for" (some great things are free, others cost a crap load and are worthless)

But you should still ask yourself "Why is this guy charging so little"

Is it because he is just super great, or is it because he is not very good and NEEDS to charge half the going rate to compensate for how often to makes a botched job.

Who knows. I'd find out some more about "this guy" as the number of times people have had their shit screwed over by "this guy who would do if for half as much". Consider he MAY in fact be just as competent as MS technicians BUT is MS technicians screw up and fry your system then they will replace your system... but if "this guy" makes the same mistake, he may just say "tough luck, buy a new machine".

Send it to MS... at least you will be GUARANTEED a working console.

Better yet, find a company online that makes a GUARANTEE on replace or repairs for money tendered.

Alright, Treblaine, you make a very good point and I'm going to check the place over before I commit, but I am leaning towards the guy
