If you wanna go by "Modern Mythology" as I would probably say Batman. Don't care if it's Bruce Wayne, Jean Paul Valley or Dick Grayson, Batman the symbol is awesome!

Now to the good ol' fashioned officially stated Mythology that we all needed to attend Myth 101 to know. I'm at a loss between Beowulf and Marduk from the Enuma Elish.

Okay, I'm gonna go with Achilles, mainly cause I think it's crazy that the dude was invincible then got shot in the ankle with an arrow and died. That sorta stuff doesn't fly nowadays in fiction, though I wish it did.
Also, HE HAS A COOL GAME! [http://www.addictinggames.com/achilles.html]

Gonna have to go with Hachiman. I mean, this dude just had the best damn resume ever. Started out as doing things for harvests and finally becoming the ideal samurai.

Perseus. I love greek mythology and he is like the only guy with a happy ending. Seriously, think about greek myths. No happy endings. It's crazy.

Hector. Not only was he a skilled warrior, but he was an incredibly noble one who fought to defend his family and country, unlike Achilles who only fought for his own personal glory.

Odyessus from the Odessy. The fact that he often uses wit over his brawn and that he managed to overcome so much in those 16 years at sea really made me think that he was a thinking man's hero.
