Hi, I'm N00bChannel and soon I shall launch a N00bChannel Website on which me and my friends will create Spoofs, Skits, Reviews and Previews of new games and making as many pop culture refrences along the way as possable! This is the first of my Series of text reviews on that website: Wii Reviewer. Am I any good? If you are interested please see N00bChannel the YouTube account for news on when the website will be up:
EDIT: I have taken on board some comments so here is Mark 2 of the review:
--Wii Reviewer Issue 0001-Wii Play--
Welcome to Issue 1 on N00bChannel's First Feature, Wii Reviewer. This issue will look at Wii Play, One of the first games you'll get if you have a Wii as this game comes with a second Wii Remote allowing multiplayer options on your other games. This game is split into 9 mini-games that make the most of the Wii Remote's motion sensitivity, the Wii's multiplayer capabilities and the Mii system:
-Shooting Range-
By aiming with the Wii Remote and pressing B to fire, you must complete 5 rounds of this duck hunt style shooter. Being one of the first game you'll play on the Wii the controls need some getting used to but it soon becomes immersive and feels quite natural. I have found that when playing with a large amount of people gameplay gets a tad insane as it is not always clear who hit which targets.
-Find Mii-
From a crowd of Miis you have to pick out the one(s) implied by the objective you see at the beginning of each round e.g. find two Miis that look the same. Point with the Wii Remote and press A to select the Miis. On single player you go for high scores but on multiplayer there is a timer and only by finding the Mii can you recover time. Because Miis in this minigame are both randomly generated and taken from Miis you have made some Miis can look really alike yet not being the ones the objective is looking for yet this rarely happens. All-in-all a good game with lots of replay value.
-Table Tennis-
How the Wii remote and the paddle on screen moves with it. During single player it's all about getting a rally of 50 but in Multiplayer its all about points. This game is fun but also challenging. It's really best with multiplayer.
-Pose Mii-
Your Wii Remote's onscreen cursor becomes your Mii and bubbles fall from the top of the screen with poses in them. Use the A and B buttons to cycle through poses until you find one that matches the one in said bubble. Then point the Wii Remote, and thus your Mii, at the bubble so the poses match up and the bubble pops. You have to stop bubbles touching the bottom of the screen. It's not the strongest game on the disk.
-Laser Hockey-
Playing like Air Hockey, the Wii Remote controls the paddle and you have to hit the ball into your opponents goals.
-Fishing-
You use the Wii Remote like a fishing rod. Hold the rod infront of the fish and when you feel it vibrate something has bit so yank up quickly to catch it. However due to perspective and the depth of the water, many times you sit with the rod at the edge of the water just above the surface and think you are baiting something in the middle and at the bottom. Also, if you are sitting next to the person you are playing against in multiplayer, you can feel their Wii Remote vibrate, pull up, and then be in awe when THEY catch the Rainbow Fish with a x2 multiplier bonus! This combined with my earlier complaint about perspective can lead to annoying gameplay.
-Billiards-
By far the worst game on offer. The Wii Remote is the cue and after placing the white ball in an overhead view you go into a 3D view with which to hit the ball. Theoretically. This game responds to what your doing half of the time and the other half with be spend with the cue jerking back and forwards not hitting anything.
-Charge-
Hold the Wii Remote sideways to control your Mii who is riding a cow. You must direct your cow to the end of the track hitting scarecrows on the way for points. It's a very well done game with no immediate flaws. It's really fun on multiplayer.
-Tanks-
The only game compatible with the Wii Nunchuck but seeings that all you need it for is movement you can just use the Wii Remote D-Pad instead. You must move your tank with one of the control methods I just covered while pointing at the screen and pressing A to place mines and Pressing B to shoot missiles to destroy enemy tanks. This is one of the best games on the disc and it would be better if only bullets did not bounce off walls. Seriously, When being fired at in a corner this will cause the end of your game.
There is also a Medal system (Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum) that can be earned depending on how well you preformed at a certain game.
In conclusion, Wii Play is a very nice party experience and for the main feature being the Second Wii Remote, It's a fun extra that will keep you entertained for ages. Now you have 2 remotes, not only is this game made all that better being played with friends, but also it extends the life of your other games that have multiplayer support. After Wii Sports it is a fantastic way of starting your Wii Game library.
