Seeing as mining tools are super effective against necromorphs, I don't think they would be a real threat to...well, most real threats. The Flood wouldn't have a real problem wiping them out. Neither would a group of space dwarves, if that even exists.

In the reasoning I took to decide that the Flood would win, I looked at how they were defeated. The Necros were vanquished by a single Engineer with mining equipment. The flood had to take one genetically enhanced super solider with the help of his mortal enemy.

The Flood and Nids both loose. Why? The answer is simple:

It looks a little like Species 8472 from Star Trek, come to think of it.

New thought: what if the Borg were in this fight? What then?

The tyranids are a bad example of 'better than the flood/necromorphs' as they're already an -established- race - that is, they're not springing up from a single infestation or two, they've already got at least one galaxies worth of resources going for them. Give the flood a few hundred million galaxies and nobody would think there's any contest, so to add the 'nids to the mix is just silly.

Anyway, of the two listed, I'd say the flood are the greater threat because they're better with technology and their spores hijack anything, I don't see why the necromorphs would be exempt.

Ok, first off? Enough about the fucking Tyranids, people. They aren't the subject of the thread. I created a similar thread to this a couple years ago that got Flooded (... heh...) with stuff about the Tyranids.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.109262-Poll-Most-Threatening-Parasite#1864567

The Necromorphs weren't in there (not only did I create that thread before Dead Space came out, even if I did I didn't own a 360 until last year) but if anyone wants more details on the Flood (or some other famous/not-so-famous video game parasites) take a look-see.

Now, to answer your question. From the look of your post, the Necs aren't capable of spaceflight. The Flood are. That right there should answer your question.

A parasitic organism hell bent on consuming the galaxy without spaceflight can't be more then a nuisance to the rest of galactic society (if you take a big-picture view, they were way more of a nuisance to the people on the ships :p). Meanwhile, the Flood pilot a space station the size of Manhattan island as well as multiple other Covenant ships.

Plus, from what I've gathered, the Gravemind is more intelligent then whatever the Nec equivalent is. http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Gravemind

A hive is only as powerful as its mind, and considering Gravemind knows not only what the current Flood are learning, but what every other Flood form ever knew all the way back to the Forerunner-Flood War, I think the larger threat is obvious.

You know, at first I was going to look at the screen like I could see you and you had three heads because that sounds incredibly stupid at first glance, but I guess they arguably are a parasite.

They spread through the dimensional wall to suck the easily accessible planets in other dimensions dry of resources.

... Cool...

Well the Borg wouldn't fare much better than your average intelligent species against the Flood. Every individual Borg has a central nervous system so the Flood can infect and control them. Even if there's a greater hive mind with the Borg it's just remotely controlling the individual's brain, a Flood Infection Form could disconnect and override that.

As for a Borg "Borgifying" the Flood, well the Flood's intelligence is completely distributed so I don't know that they even could add any Flood to their collective. And even if they could and the Borg were able to get the Gravemind's "body" the remaining Flood would most likely still follow the unaffected Gravemind intelligence (because the Gravemind is the combined computational resources and memory of all Flood, not any specific creature itself).

After reviewing points throughout the thread, I believe I have reached a decision.

In the two way struggle between the Flood and the Necromorphs, I give points to the Flood. They are more durable, the spores will happily latch onto anything that moves and create more Flood. The fact that they are intelligent enough to control space ships and use weapons (and we've seen that even simple mining equipment is enough against Necromorphs.

In a three way struggle between Flood, Necromorphs, and Tyranids, I once again go with the Flood. The Tyranids may be able to EAT everything, but eating doesn't help you when you're swarmed by hundreds of millions of spores that will infect you and and your people, take your ships to your homeworld, and then infect them too.

To end the threat of the Necromorphs: Send a miner.
To end the threat of the Tyranids: MORE DAKKA.
To end the threat of the Flood: Destroy all life in the entirety of the Galaxy.

Which would you rather deal with?

You have a very good point about the tyrandis there, and whether or not the flood could directly infect a necromorph depends on if they have a functioning nervous system. Considering they're made from dead humans and can move, I'm guessing they do.

OT: I choose the flood.

It's been quite a debate between me and my friends, with fair arguments on both sides.

Even though I love Necros, my vote is for the the Flood. They're super intelligent, they can wield weapons and even pilot ships. Not to mention they almost wiped out the entire galaxy, and destroyed the most advanced alien race. Necromorphs wouldn't stand much of a chance

Actually, it was ecosystem. Which is even more scary, when you think about it.

I think Flood would be able to infect dead Necromorphs, and some of their dead. They would definitely win. Also they don't rely on ambushing anyone with violins, so that's another point or twelve in their favor.

Flood, no contest, they have guns.

A fight between Gravemind and the Hive Mind might be interesting though.

You are freakin' awesome, sir/m'am. And absolutely right.

It isn't ever really mentioned in the games, and it's barely mentioned anywhere else, but the Flood "infection form" that you fight in the games is there simply to infect with speed. Spend enough time in the modified atmosphere (that greenish fog you see all over the place on High Charity in Halo 2) and you'll be infected. Sure, let's say that the 'Nids destroy every infection form, but their entire planet now has that fog around it. Congrats, you have what may be the most dangerous thing ever- Flood infected Tyranids.

If the Flood can infect Necromorphs, then it's all over. All they'd have to do is keep on sending out infection forms, and they'd revive every one of their fallen soldiers.
