here are all the types / brands they sell in the capicity I,m looking for :

Hitachi:
Desk Star
Ultra Star

Samsung:
Ecogreen

Seagate:
Barracuda

Western Digital:
Caviar Greenpower

For storage:
Seagate LP 2 TB green 5900 rpm (64 MB)/ Western Digital Caviar Green 2 TB

Seagate has the best MTBF record of all the OEM's. So anything by them (especially if you splash out on an enterprise grade one) will be a good choice.

Ah yes, the old Barracuda's were an exception to that rule. Seagate has bought Samsung's HDD production division now, I hope they make something good in the future.

what about the newer ones? are they any good I don,t want to spend money on something that will break under a year.
