And besides, i am more of a Nerd then a Geek, i prefer the term because Nerd sounds better then Geek, in my opinion.

What about Dork...
Dork can mean "penis" in certain contexts. No joke. [http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3Adork&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:eek:fficial&client=firefox-a]

As for the topic: Geek has a nicer connotation, but nerd more accurately describes me.

I'd rather go with geek than nerd. Has less "glasses and chronic acne" connotations if you ask me.

Though to be honest, I'd rather not be referred to as either, unless it's coming from myself, or another "geek"...:p Then it's ok.

Actually, I no longer consider either offensive. Saying "you're a nerd" is saying "Hey, you're really smart and it makes me selfconscious that I'm not as smart". Why would I be offended by people calling me smart?
Saying "your a geek" is saying "you're part of a devoted subculture that has the guts to be different and not conform so I'm going to attack you because you're an easy target since you're different". Why would someone saying that I'm a nonconformist make me angry? Isn't being unique a good thing?

I consider myself a nerd. To me, the term means one who is interested in a niche of topics like science, technology, games, etc, but is still socially acceptable and no way bad.

On reflection, I consider geek to be one who is socially insular, but sharing the traits of interest of a nerd.

Nerd: One who does well on tests, or has a broad general knowledge.
Geek: Someone who enjoys things not always positively viewed by society (videogames, anime, what have you).
I am both. Please add that option.

I'm a geek in that I enjoy video games and computers, I'm doing a degree (BSc) in Mathematics, and I'm into sci-fi and fantasy stuff. I also don't mind anime too much and I'm planning on getting most Alan Moore graphic novels plus Arkham Asylum ASAP. That said, I have non-geek interests (in particular acting and film-making) and I do socialise, although most geeks do still socialise, it's only a stereotype that we're all fat slobs sitting at computer desks all day modifying the programming on our latest porn sites and eating doughnuts. Not that I do that, although I do plan to teach myself programming languages (in particular Java and C++) over the summer. But I digress. I don't mind being called a geek too much (except when my family does, but that's just because it gets on my nerves that they've done it for the past 5 years and still haven't realised they aren't funny). Nerd is different, and I do mind being called that. Anything else depends on my mood, I suppose...

Well. There's just no denying that I'm one of them...and saying I'm a geek makes me feel like I still have a pretty nice shot with the ladies.

I thought the nerd was a knowledge junkie, at least in a particular field. Usually one or more of the sciences. Social awkwardness comes with the territory. That's like the kid who does his science fair project using high-powered lasers.

A geek to me is someone who is also socially awkward, but obsessed with a non-scientific area of interest. Like Trekkies and band geeks, for example. (I'm also looking at you, people with anime avatars! :D)
