Only if we're all fighting in a lift and everyone has their gun in a form of holster before they begin. And the holster can only be opened by completing a rubix-cube.

So, yes, under very specific circumstances.

What is with people complaining about these days, what, did you run out of things to complain about, or just got bored, so now you have to have something else to whine about?

It is a game just live with it they aren't gonna take knifes out...

This reminds me of a situation I was in during an airsoft battle recently. I had flanked a guy who had some of my team pinned down. I came through the door, took carefull aim, and just as he looked around at me, I shot him three times in the chest. Or at least, I would have, if the rifle didn't choose that exact moment to jam. He was so surprised, he took a moment to turn and shoot me. If I had a plastic knife, or if a pretended strike with a fist or foot was allowed, then I'd have beaten him.

In the immortal words of Big Boss "In close quarters, a knife can be more useless than a gun."

You don't need years of training to hit the broad side of a barn with a knife. Trust me, the movies lied, shooting a gun is haaaaard =C
isn't he supposed to have said:

"knife can be more useful than a gun"

or

"Gun can be more useless than a knife"

And I think the think about knives in our instinctive human "Fight or Flight" response favours brute-force close-combat (i.e. hitting things with sharp or heavy things) rather than firearms. It comes from our "shitting in the bushes" stage of evolution where the main weapons we used were sharp rocks and clubs.

To be a good shot you need to be relaxed, calm and delicate... and an adrenal response doesn't help with that. You know the old saying "they key to winning a gunfight is learning to take your time when you are in a hurry".

According to Officer Malone bringing a knife to gunfight would be typical of an Italian gentleman.

Knives are the backup weapons in games for a reason.

The firearm is the most powerful weapon a human being can wield, albeit with limitions.

One of which is ammo, and the larger a gun gets, the less manueverable it becomes.

Be prepared for if you should need a knife, but then again, we're on the escapist.
How many of us plan on getting into gun fights today?

It often turns out that it was actually a knife fight, and then you look like a coward for bringing a revolver when everyone else has just got a little butter knife.

Always bring a knife as as a back up. Remember the only fair fight is the one you win.

I prefer the other saying "show up for a knife fight with a gun" hell 200+ years of imperialism can't be wrong.

If you can, bring a gun. If you can't, bring a knife. Better to have a knife and no gun than to having nothing at all.

Also knives allow for stealthy kills.

Why not both?

1. The gun part of that doesn't do anything and if did the blade would make unwieldy and too inaccurate to shoot an enemy standing directly in front of you.

2. Replacing the sword grip with a gun grip would make the weapon awkward and unwieldy when using it as a sword, so now it's useless as a gun AND a sword.

3. That doesn't even look cool, it just plain looks like a crappy weapon to use (and, as I have pointed out, is).
But hey, at least you're not taking the joke far too seriously.

OT: I'm a lover, not a fighter.

[sub]And can we get rid of this fucking Captcha thing? The words are so illegible that I have to type it out 3 times (they could at least use real bloody words), and the Escapist hardly ever gets spam from what I've seen.[/sub]

I thought Modern Warfare 2 taught us all how valuable a knife is? Who says a knife doesn't have range?

Dude you have to tell me where you got that moving image. that was hilarious.

What about that scene from the Punisher movie (the first one) where Tom Jane has that knife where the blade shoots out of the handle? That would work.

Guns have the range. Even a handgun has an effective range of at least twenty metres, whereas a knife only around five. On the other hand, knives are much more deadly, being a near-guaranteed kill in range whereas several pistol rounds are usually required to bring a target down. Also, they have the advantage of not requiring ammo.

Just as another counterpoint.

Anyway, yes I agree to the meaning behind the phrase, which is pretty obviously a good thing.
