Poll: New forum section

I was just thinking, since we have a religion and politics section, an off-topic section, and gaming discussion sections(plus a few more), could The Escapist possibly make a science and history section? Those things seem to go together well, and most science/history threads I have seen have been scattered through several sections of the Escapists. And there's not really a dedicated place to have discussions in these topics.

So what do you guys think?

Just something I would like to see implemented.

Typically, historical subjects are very related to political, economical and religious debates. History is everything and it's topics are subjective, same with science. Again, more often than not, scientific debates will cross into political and religious territory.

So I vote nay.

If a new forum were to be made, I'd prefer it be my suggestion of a Poll Vault [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.285012-Poll-Poll-Vault#11230811]. A place for silly, lighthearted polls without being tied into having discussion.

I'm not sure why you'd lump science and history together. Usually it's more like "Science and Technology" that are grouped together.

I don't think it'd be that great of an idea. It's a nice thought, but we have enough sub-forums as it is. Besides, they fit in just fine in Off Topic.

If I remember right, one of the reasons Religion & Politics got it's own sub-forum was because they were dominating Off Topic.

I think we should have a section completely dedicated to Spider-Man threads.

Can't say I agree, it's not like Off-Topic is so full that good discussion is getting pushed out of view before it's time. Most other removals had a specific reason:

Religion & Politics: caused too many flame wars and filled up Off-Topic

Role-playing: to protect RP threads from quickly disappearing off the first page into oblivion

User reviews: same as RPs

Forum games: to keep threads without discussion value out of Off-Topic

Advice forum: to minimise trolling on advice threads

As far as I can see, there's no equivalent pressing reason give science and history their own forum and the latter often ends up in R&P anywhere.

We really don't need another forum We can't have a different forum for every possible subject. I wouldn't complain if it was added, but this isn't something the off topic couldn't handle.

Poll Vault? That's genius good Sir. Such a thing would cater perfectly to the limited attention span of the average Escapist.

While I don't speak for everyone on here but is science/history topics really that popular? I more in favour of an media (TV, cartoon or book etc) forum section than science/history. Yes I have seen some science/history topics but I find topics on TV, anime or books to be far more popular than those two.

Going to have to go with nay. Histoy & Science can often come up in off topic or R&P, seems a little silly to further segregate the current forum setup.

I haven't noticed an overwhelming amount of science or political threads. They seem to fit quite well in Off Topic. I see a lot of threads where people request music recommendations so if I was to suggest anything maybe a music forum? I think I just notice these threads though because I enjoy them. The forum seems pretty well divided as is.

No. The Religion and Politics section exists for the sole purpose of being a wasteland to boot flame-tastic threads to. Gaming discussion and off-topic are general threads that are separated to keep thing organized, forum games is there to to put all the game threads tog ether rather then scattering and also because they would otherwise tend to push out other popular threads. Different forums exist to promote organization. Science and History aren't popular enough to warrant there own section.

While I don't think they need an entirely new section, I think it's fair to say that most science/history/technology threads tend to degenerate into squabbling and nit-picking very quickly. Not full on bellowing arguments like with religion and politics, but invariably someone will try to correct someone else and bickering will follow.
