Interesting, but why does the quote "No John, you ARE the demons." spring to mind?
Is that some kind of Halo quote? (I assume not from the games, judging by later posts.)

Go to Deviant Art if you want a free for all, why muck up this site?
Would you say the same for the off-topic discussion forum? The religion and politics forum?

I see a forum for the exchange and sharing of art and ideas to be more relevant to this site's ideals than either of the aforementioned.

But you are of course welcome to disagree.
They created a separate forum for Religion and Politics because it was becoming flame-war inducing troll-bait. Thus, they moved it to it's own forum where the everyday users wouldn't have to worry about people posting thirty different "Try George W. Bush as a War Criminal" threads.

I would argue that if one is going down that road, there should only be a gaming discussion forum and the mods should act harshly on those who attempt to discuss off-topic subjects or roleplay. I think art has more of a place here than two forums which you point out exist solely to keep the "real" forum clean.
No, R&P is to keep Off Topic clean. And Off Topic is a Forum that EVERY message board has.

Unless they want to try and manage this mess (Which is whats going to happen if we start giving out sub-forums to everyone).

I certainly wouldn't ever browse it.

Link it on your books of face or maybe do that twitter with the rest of the deviant artists? Ya damn whippersnappers and yer music
*waves cane*

Get back to bed you old foggy, can't you see a new generation is running things now!

*pops out teeth to clean them*

OT: Not only would this come into conflict with the Advertising rules on this site, it would probably just end up being a "LOOK WHAT I MADE!!!111" fest. If you need someone to critique your work, why not make a Deviantart account and then link it to a thread in the Advice forum?

FalloutJack has never played Halo. The reference, as the OP got it, was to a fanfiction...of Doom.

No. No more sub-forums. They just splinter the community, and are annoying. If you want an art section, go to an art forum.

And it is totally awesome!

You make a point, but I don't see it as meaning much. Example: some people use only the off-topic forum here. Others rarely leave the religious section. I think providing somewhere for people to share and discuss art is more relevant here than all other forums bar the actual gaming discussion.

Oh my God, a sub-forum dedicated to graphing calculators? Someone needs to talk to those people. But otherwise, I think an art forum could be cool, but it really mustn't snowball into anything like gamefaqs.

You keep saying that. Please explain how you came to that conclusion. Perhaps this can clear up some things.

Did you see that the sub-forum for Anime had it's own sub-forums? It's like descending into Hell, only instead of 9 circles, they have a shit ton of descending tunnels that just keep getting deeper and deeper into the bowels of damnation.

On the one hand, considering roughly 2-3 times a week theres some sort of "Heres my stuff, share your stuff" sort of thread popping up, so it makes sense to have a centralized location for it.

On the other hand... Isnt that what deviantart is for?

Sure.

In my view, art, be it in the form of story telling, poetry, music or design, has more place on a website dedicated to "the gaming lifestyle", something defined by its artistic place in society, than off-topic discussion and politics. One could use the same argument to suggest that if you want to talk off-topic, go to a chat room.

Again, that is just my subjective opinion.

Probably not, but it should certainly be given its own area on the forum.

And that's why no sane people use the gamefaqs forums.

One hand hand it is a good idea. On the other it is horrible. You just know if there was a board here like that eventually someone would key into it steal some ideas and make money for themselves. Look at Bioware. If you even show them a picture they hold the right to use it and it's likeness without paying you. Why would this be any different.
More a place for amateur work than for anyone seeking a career. If I was looking at making money off my artistic endeavorers, I would stay far, far away from the internet, lol.

You don't seem to understand: Off Topic boards are practically a standard. It's not a question of whether its relevant: It just IS (And people expect it). R&P and RP are the odd bunch, and they both have a definitive purpose: release valves for topics the grand majority of us don't want to have to sift through.

As for your explanation as to why an Arts board needs to be added... I don;t see any of the lines your drawing. None of them.

This, of course, could be because I'm bum fucked tired. Which is why I'm going to bed.

But I doubt it.

I know, right? I wont even use GameFaqs actual FAQs anymore after seeing that bees nest.

Me? I'd be kind of stoked, lol.

You are forgetting entirely the biggest factor of the Escapist forums: The Escapist community. Creating an art forum solely for the fact that it is tangentially related to the "Gaming lifestyle" does not fulfill a need of the people who make up these forums.

There is a demand for the Off-topic forum, so they made it. (Well, they made it by default as all forums have one, but still) There was a large number of forum games and RP, so they made a subforum for that, too. And then they did it for religion and politics, and again for the Advice forum.
And I was there, I saw what the forums were like before and after. The thing is, its not just that there were a lot of people making threads for these topics, its that in order to maintain the consistency of moderation, isolating these types of threads allowed for a policing specific to that sort of discussion.

There simply is not a real demand for an art subforum, as you can see by the blatant lack of art threads in every single non-news, non-website content section. And the needs of the people who would partake in an art subforum have their needs already met by way of the Advice forum, user groups and off topic threads.

Good points.

I still think a forum would benefit the community, though.

I wouldn't. I mean if i spent time on something and people remarked how cool it was then some prick came and took what was basically my creation. Something i came up with out of nothingness and used it without informing me....i'd feel cheated.
If I was working towards a career in the field I'd be majorly pissed. But if that were the case, I wouldn't be sharing my work with the internet. As it stands, as someone using a forum and making various forms of art in the name of a hobby, I'd think it cool something I made was seen as good enough to be used in a budgeted release.
