Hello escapist, I've been using the same hunk of rubbish tv for years now, and feel that its probably the right time to go HD and get the best from my 360, and I'm not very television-savvy, so I was wondering what you guys thought of this TV [http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5295638/c_1/1|category_root|Home+entertainment+and+sat+nav|14419512/c_2/2|cat_14419512|Televisions|14419667/gotoTab/reviews.htm]?

Is it worth buying? I live in the UK and have a maximum budget for a new TV of £290, so if you have any better options/disagree with my choice, please submit them :)

£290 less than or equal
Preferably 32"
It's pretty much only for gaming, as I can't get reception where i'll be using it.

Thanks :D

Well, what can I say. That TV in the OP looked pretty good, I'd buy that in your situation.

Hmm it's the same as the TV in my room. So as someone, who has experienced the product first hand, and since you have the money then yeah go for it.

This is better, you could sit outside in the sun and play games then. It's only £60...

All I can say is, don't get an LCD one, get a plasma screen. Yes, the one in the picture looks like just the television you need.

Negatory.

For gaming, go LCD. The static images (like mini-maps) will cause burn-in on plasma screens. They're getting better now, but it is still very possible to permanently damage the plasma cells.

Especially with such a small size, LCD is very affordably priced (LCDs are usually cheaper in smaller screens, however their cost sky-rockets when you get up around 40+ inches), so I'd go with that.

I think the reason I went off LCDs is because you have to sit level with the screen otherwise the image goes really dark or light.

Alba? I'm sure it's ok. I would chuck in an extra £30 quid and get a Samsung.

Most technological advances for LCD has helped with that as well as the motion blur effects related with LCD, for more info check out this article on LCD vs Plasma [http://www.crutchfield.com/S-qZxZY8UbAvQ/Learn/learningcenter/home/tv_flatpanel.html]. It also makes the point that when under 42" screens, the LCD display can be as bright if not brighter than a Plasma.

So, yea, OP's link for the LCD TV is a good choice.

I'm serious about £290 stretching my budget already, and I would get a plasma, but they tend to be double the price for the same size, any other suggestions for same or less price would be brilliant, but I'm probably going to buy this TV now.

Don't be too concerned with the "image burn" on modern/recent plasma TV's. We have one downstairs (where my mum plays HER games >.< ) and the minimaps etc. still images shouldn't really start burning in unless you play for something like 12 hours straight without turning it off for 5-10 mins.

Much thanks for all the input, it's helped.

I've been using the same cheapo piece of crap TV for years now, and it makes no difference to me.
As long as I can still play, I don't see how it matters.
But to each his own, I guess.
If you have the money and you're willing to spend it, go nuts.

Some games have small text, and generally display it near the sides of the screen, on my TV the sides of the screen tend to blur quite a bit, and you don't notice the difference in quality until you see the same game played on a HD tv. It's one of those things where i have noticed it once and now i can't stop seeing it, either that, or the TV is getting progressively worse.

Blurry text just annoys me immensely.

I use my old CRT monitor, with the XBOX360 vga HD cable ($10 used at Gamestop)
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=40681
I Am running Xbox30 in 1050P
The quality is amazing, with an LCD monitor I think you can get to 1080;
if you get a vga switch, you could your your PC's monitor with both,
your PC and Xbox
--edit--
compared with old TV of the same size;
this is way better I can read the words now!!!
