I'm hearing that the player cap will be 16 players. Now while this is much better than 4 player split screen and while I didn't expect a MAG scale player cap, I can't help but feel like there should be more than 16. Like somewhere around 30.

It's not a deal breaker of course: I'm still getting the game.

Sounds fine to me, TM is more about driving around collecting power ups before getting into a fight anyway.

Well thats how I used to always play it, pick one of the fastest cars to dart around the map before setting up traps for my cousins, if you picked a fight straight away with limited weapons against someone who quickly picked up some homing missiles, well guess whose gonna run out of ammo first?.

32 players is more suited to gunners where you start with an almost full compliment of ammo and weapons.

Depends what the game is designed around, more people per game certainly doesn't mean a better multiplayer experience.

It depends on the game.

Some games are best with 2-4 people. Split screen games, co-op, some racing games, etc.

Frag fests are best with 8-16 players. Fewer and the action will be too slow and less entertaining, anymore and it'll be too crowded and you'll die moments after spawning.

Some games are best with 32-64 to even 100 players in some cases. Usually big, wide open battlefields with plenty of travel time and strategic opportunity (Battlefield series, MAG.)

And then there are MMOs, which are best with at least over a thousand players in a persistent world so that you have plenty of people to trade/buy equipment with, form parties, guilds and roleplaying scenarios with, etc.

It really does depend on the game, there is no "too few" and there is no "too much". I don't get what you mean by the "new 4". A decade later, there will still be some games that are best played with 2-4 people.
No doubt, my friend and I just finished playing through the first playthrough of Borderlands strictly on split screen and we had a great time doing that. But that?s less of a competitive game and more of a co-op.

I am open to the idea that I am wrong and that more than 16 players would clutter the arenas but I?m still not sure and probably wont be until I actually play the game.

I liked this line "Just be happy you're getting a new Twisted Metal. You know there are circles of hell for people like you who look for holes in silver linings."
