Hardcore mode? I'm confused, but sounds interesting... Can we have more information please? A link to wherever you found out this?

edit: just read the article, looks cool! I like the idea that the character needs to drink water to stay alive... what about food though? Maybe the character would be required to hunt for food, though not as frequently as needing to drink.

I will certainly do it one time or more, but ain't sure if I do it the first time.

Already psyched for New Vegas since this time the storyline doesn't look like it will suck. I mean, from to the rumours from the article in PC gamer we got bransches from Van Buren.

hardcore mode is basically to make the game stay difficult after level 8/9ish. i mean level 20 with a decent gatling laser you could just walk through old olney on very difficult.

Nope. Maybe on a second go. But I always play default difficulty on the first run.

I didn't jizz when I heard about it (just now). I like being able to plow through enemies at higher levels, it makes me feel like I've achieved something and don't suck like I did at the start of the game.

Me too, but I see this as less of a change of difficulty, and more of a change of gameplay. As in, needing to drink to survive was something I thought should have been implemented into Fallout 3 anyway.

I more excited about the revamped SPECIAL system mechanics, and how they'll affect speech and decision choices (like having your intelligence below 4 in Fallout 1 and 2 meant you could only grunt and point in all dialog.)

And the Reputation mechanic is back alongside Karma.

Sadly, they're still using Gamebryo as the base engine.

I have a slightly different way of approaching it. It's not so much "hardcore mode" as it is that the standard setting is actually "idiot mode", since idiot mode essentially turns Fallout into a game for drooling wretches, instead of a proper Fallout game. In light of that... how can I refuse it?

There was a mod that did this in Fallout 3. You needed to monitor thirst and hunger. You also couldn't just take twenty stimpaks mid battle, as healing quickly dehydrated the character.

I'll check it out, sure. I've got high hopes for this game because I didn't really feel like 3 captured the essences of the fallout franchise.

When I heard 'hardcore' mode, I was thinking Diablo hardcore mode, whereby if your character dies you have to start again.

Sounds like it'll add some depth.
