Well the Xbox one has been reveled and putting aside the monumentally stupid name,
this is the first time since the SNES that I have had absolutely no desire for any of the big consoles of a generation.
Now in the interest of full disclosure I fully admit that a few years ago I made the shift from consoles to PC gaming, I started losing interest in my 360 after it red ringed, I got it back repaired and the patch hit that removed the blade dashboard, added avatars and shifted the focus of the console from a games platform to a media center.
But I still had so much hope for the new generation until now, maybe that was naive but I held out hope for so long that Sony and Microsoft would do the right thing by their fans, and now I fell like a fool for it.
I remember a time when consoles really only did one thing well, but dammit, they did it really well. I always felt that PC's had a set of advantages over consoles and consoles had their set of advantages over PC's. But it seems that over the last few years I have watched the console creators willingly and deliberately surrender their advantages while doing almost nothing to mitigate those held by PC.
So I sit here writing this post and wondering what the hell happened? what happened that console creators lost their way in such a spectacular fashion.
This is something I will revisit in a few years, looking at the game library, price and functionality of each console to see if either of them are worthwhile picking up then, but for now, I am staying well away from both of them.
I am adding a poll out of interest, asking what you see yourself playing for the next few years.
