Well the Xbox one has been reveled and putting aside the monumentally stupid name,
this is the first time since the SNES that I have had absolutely no desire for any of the big consoles of a generation.

Now in the interest of full disclosure I fully admit that a few years ago I made the shift from consoles to PC gaming, I started losing interest in my 360 after it red ringed, I got it back repaired and the patch hit that removed the blade dashboard, added avatars and shifted the focus of the console from a games platform to a media center.

But I still had so much hope for the new generation until now, maybe that was naive but I held out hope for so long that Sony and Microsoft would do the right thing by their fans, and now I fell like a fool for it.

I remember a time when consoles really only did one thing well, but dammit, they did it really well. I always felt that PC's had a set of advantages over consoles and consoles had their set of advantages over PC's. But it seems that over the last few years I have watched the console creators willingly and deliberately surrender their advantages while doing almost nothing to mitigate those held by PC.

So I sit here writing this post and wondering what the hell happened? what happened that console creators lost their way in such a spectacular fashion.

This is something I will revisit in a few years, looking at the game library, price and functionality of each console to see if either of them are worthwhile picking up then, but for now, I am staying well away from both of them.

I am adding a poll out of interest, asking what you see yourself playing for the next few years.

I recently bought my first Nintendo home console the wiiu, (had the gamecube as a child but never touched it) and based on the news being officially released about the Xbox One and PS4, i do not regret my choice at all.

While there are a couple of niggles and other things to get used to, I'm finding that the Wii u is a very well built machine with tons of potential. While its power is certainly not up to scratch compared to the up comers, I feel that graphical power simply is not as important as other factors.

I am no longer planning to get any consol, and if a game can't be played on my rig I'm not going to worry about an upgrade, I just won't play the game. I'll still buy and play games, but I'm not going to panic if I can't.

Try the Wii U. Nintendo has completely avoided every last mistake that the other two have made. Their console is actually about playing games, rather than a game of 'who can add the most pointless feature to our console.' Kind of ironic, isn't it?

The type of games that I prefer these days tend to be all PC exclusive, or if they aren't, the PC perks are way more worth it, like modding kits and whatnot. It's a shame, though... The consoleers deserves better than this. :<

Yes, more variety, focus on gameplay, cheaper prices, modding and nicier communities.

I wouldn't buy any new-gen console that came without a trackball controller anyway, but I certainly won't bring the Kineye Of Sauron and The One Ring to my house.

I'm going to be sticking with my Laptop for the most part.
With any luck I'll be heading to University later this year and there's no way I'm going to be dragging a console about with me. Besides, there aren't any talks of games coming out for them which interest me. I'll probably just ride the waves of indie/retro games that are available on Steam and maybe buy a 3DS so I can still play Monster Hunter and Chrono Trigger.

Well PC is going to be my primary gaming device for now.
Depending on what exclusive games are released I may pick up a PS4 or a WiiU.

I've no intent towards getting an Xbox-one because of the whole used games situation.

For the first time in my life I have absolutely no interest in any of the next gen consoles. And since I have no money to upgrade my PC or buy new games anyway I may have to resign myself to abandoning gaming altogether.

At the moment I'm leaning towards PS4, although it'll depend on what the truth is about the whole preowned games mess on the Bone, I may still consider it if it turns out Microsoft have a sensible trading system up their sleeves. I just wish they would be straight with us rather than giving half-answers to our questions.
