Microsoft and Sony's eternal nerdslap fight rages on as the E3 2010 concludes in LA on the 17th. Sony putting up a good fight with their patented 'Wii motion glowey' heralding in the hardcore motion game genre with such imaginative titles like "the fight" and "the shops". Microsoft as usual recognizes the challenge with their new animal game "stupid tiger thing", A good rebuttal but where Sony happily demonstrates why you don't need to purchase a Wii, Microsoft goes on to demonstrate why you don't need to purchase the Microsoft Kinect.

Discussion time folks! What are your thoughts?

I'm personally waiting for the Kinect, and I might just pre-order it if the price goes down. Curretnly, it's 149.99 and includes a bundle of really, really shitty games.

They both look pretty shitty, and I'm perfectly content with my Wii and all the good games that are already on it.

First, my response to the poster: I'm not looking forward to them at all. I don't see any point in them, I'm perfetly happy with my controller.

Now then: Havn't we had enough of these threads asking if we wants this or not? People I find are taking enough opportunity to bash the Kinect and Move

Well I didn't bother to "search bar approve" to be honest as I wanted a response post E3 when the hype is all but nonexistant (like now) :)

Also I too will forever be using my thumbs to fight terrorists :p

They're just impractical. I'd much rather navigate through the Xbox menus with an analogue stick and buttons than with Kinect.

The kinect has some potential did you not see "man looking at car the game" or as sony would put it "the car"

Here's the difference, with the Wii, we all imagined the potential. The reality ended up being quite less impressive than what we imagined, but the potential is still there. The Move tunes up the Wiimote with motion plus, so it does everything the same or better (except some 4 player games, but the potential of 7 player makes up for it). So games that were awesome on the Wii, will likely get ported to the PS3, and games that were almost good on the Wii, but hampered by the limitations of the Wiimote will get ported to the PS3 and then finally be good.

The Kinect is starting from scratch, so like the Wii, we see all the potential, and like the Wii it has limitations and it won't really work as a first gen product. We already know what the problems will be, only 2 players, can't sit down, can't wear baggy clothes, doing large motions where a simple button press will do. These are analogous to problems the Wii had, like not being able to point away from the sensor bar. I'm quite curious to see what Kinect 2 is like, but I don't think the Kinect will actually work.

No. I think they will fail due to the Wii having it covered. Nintendo has an entire system built around "casual" gamers but Sony and Microsoft just have the motion control part. I think Nintendo has a whole formula and its competition is just desperately trying and failing to replicate it.
