Okay, this might not make a whole lot of sense to any of you, but here's the deal:
I love Nier and played it all the way through, getting all achievements. Then I started playing Deadly Premonition (it was released 6 months later here in the EU) and, although I haven't quite finished it yet (no spoilers, please!), I can't shake the feeling the games are somewhat similar. Sure, not in theme, gameplay, setting or ambience. Still, I can´t help but feel that both games appeal to me in the same way.
First off, they both have odd characters in a strange setting and twisty/bizarre story. They both involve lots of optional quests to get to know more about the world and the characters in it (I know this is vague and could apply to most games, but the way they do it with follow-up quests and such makes it feel similar to me). They both have lots of wandering around, not the best combat, unusual music and mediocre graphics, but they both shine in story and characters.
Maybe this is just a result of playing them around the same time, but I was wondering how many people here have played both games and had a similar experience.
In regards to the poll options, I used 'hate' as a very general term since using 'like' and 'dislike' together might lead people to click the wrong one as a result of sloppy reading. If you were even ambivalent to either or both games, please still classify that as hate. Making the poll more nuanced would have just led to way too many options.
Also, this is not a thread about the quality of the games. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and I don't want to persuade you if you disagree any more than I want you to tell me why I'm wrong for loving these games. Please keep comments relevant to the theory.
Thank you for your time
