There's something odd I've noticed among my fellow escapists. There seems to be a high-level of dislike for Nintendo and J-RPGs. However, the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi games seem to have a nice number of fans here, and I've not encountered any major criticism directed at the RPG spinoffs (or maybe they're just not as well known, so the haters haven't been exposed to them as much...) Anyway, I've been wondering if anyone else would like to see more RPG spinoffs, or perhaps forrays into different genres. So, would you like to see Link taking turns duking it out with Ganon? Or, perhaps you'd like to see something entirely different, like an RTS that covers Ganondorf conquering Hyrule in the seven year gap of Ocarina of Time? Maybe even reverse the trend and give Pikachu its own platformer?

Edit: "Other" can work as an RPG spinoff for a different franchise, a different genre spinoff of one of the mentioned franchises, ect.

Star Fox, I think. Zelda is definitely not an RPG, but it's close enough that I wouldn't be clamoring for an RPG spinoff. Metroid would be awesome, but I think a Star Fox game with a huge galaxy to explore and bunches of planets, like a mix between Mass Effect and Freelancer, would be AWESOME.

That does sound interesting, especially since I think Star Fox is somewhere around the midpoint of "serious" (sci-fi war series) and "silly" (war is fought by animals...it's allowed to deviate from the drama)...I could see this being able to have pleanty of both dramatic and comical moments.

and your "friendly mushroom" sokka avatar is awesome too!

that actually does sound pretty good, so long as it was less mass effect and more freelancer (I think it's been proven that fox should never get out of his ship. stupid dinosaur planets...)

I think F-Zero lends itself well to the "hyper-realistic driving sim" genre. Of course, there's nothing particularly realistic about zipping around a track with electrified walls at about 400mp/h in what essentially amounts to a miniature spaceship, but the obscene amount of customization would just be so fun. Like Gran Turismo meets Armored Core, really.

Actually, I really loved Star Fox Adventures, even if a traditional Star Fox game would be preferred. Sure, it was a Zelda ripoff, but a decent one. I liked it. But yes, I do think Fox should stay in his ship. Or at least, if he ever gets out of it, make it more like Adventures and less like Assault. Because that game was... meh. Whenever you weren't in the Arwing, that is.

I'd love an Elite Beat Agents RPG.

Just think about how much fun that would be.

Same here, but I think it would have been better if it had remained the original, unrelated "Dinosaur Planet"...the characters, especially the near-end game twist, just seemed so out of place. Nintendo made it a spinoff so it'd be recognizable.

...to be fair, I probably wouldn't have noticed it had it not been for Fox acting as a mascot for the game though
