So, all of a sudden it stopped reading discs. I went to Radioshack (Yes, one still exists in my area. If curious I will explain how) because it's the closest, walking distance place around and got a CD lens cleaner. The CD didn't work: The Wii still can't read games.

I don't really know where best to go next. I know what my options are.

[li]But, I'm both too lazy and too afraid to take apart the console. I'm not sure if that's irrational thinking on my part as I've been told it's not TOO HARD and it's not like it's not already broken. [/li]

[li]Since the warranty is expired I don't know what I can get out of calling Nintendo[/li]

[li]I don't know of any places I can take it to[/li]

[li]While some people are willing to buy broken consoles to fix themselves most aren't[/li]

[li]I can't sell it for much[/li]

[li]I want to donate it out of the goodness of it all but I also could use some side cash frankly[/li]

Where should I go from here? What should I try next? Thanks.

Hard to say however most consoles like the PS2 have a problem with the lens. If the problem is what I think it is then the problem might be with DVDs only so try a CD disc to see if it is (put a music single/album in to see if plays).

If it is only with DVDs then your options are really to open it up and gently clean the lens with a cotton swap but even then that might not solve it as a replacement of lens might be needed.

It's really simple to replace the DVD drive or lens. Watch a video tutorial [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gj__II4u0Mk] then decide whether you're up to it.

You could also try calling Nintendo and explaining your situation. They replaced my broken Wii U even though it was out of warranty. They also do mail-in repairs here, probably where you are too.

I reached the tri screws and had to postpone till I either get a tri screwdriver or find one lying around the house. *Cue wah wah waaaahhhh sound*
