So me and my friend decided to marathon Digimon Adventure since we both love the series and haven't watched the original since we were kids. Now I know that it was aimed at kids and they went for the "OHH SPARKLE DRAGON" effect more than actual good dialogue or voice actors, but GOD DAMN is the English dub bad at some parts.

We can watch it without hating it though because of nostalgia. And I think that's a good thing. I still really love Digimon. I love seeing Digimon and having a nerdgasm and pointing out Digimon since I know much more about the Digimon and its evolutions than I did as a kid. Its fun. I believe though that if I never watched the show as a kid I would have a hard time enjoying it now.

Nostalgia can bring up great memories for a person. I still cry on the inside when Mufasa dies in Lion King. I still love the stupid leg lamp from A Christmas Story. I can still play FF 1 since I always wanted to be the Black Mage as a kid. And I still remember the hope that the whistle brings in Digimon: The Movie.

I know that nostalgia doesn't last forever, and that memories can be ruined by trying to completely enjoy things from nostalgia. The original Sonic games have done that to me as time goes on. They are not bad games, they just don't hold up to SOME of the newer games (I know I'm going to get flak for this). This can be seen when film companies try to do remakes of classic films and mess up too. Or when game and book licenses get adapted for the screen.

What are your opinions on nostalgia?

I think it's totally ok to be nostalgic about something. Revisiting old things you used to love and remembering how they made you feel then can be great, but you can't ever let that disguise how you feel about something now.

Myst is an incredibly important franchise to me and one that I still love, but it's not my favorite and I certainly see lots of things about it I would fix. Same goes for Avatar: The Last Airbender, on it's best days it's still a pretty awesome fantasy show. So while judged on it's own merits it's a solid C grade kids movie, as a fan of the original the recent movie was the single most disappointing thing I've ever seen.

If you can keep the two separate they can work wonders, otherwise you need to tread lightly.

I love going back and getting back into things that I used to love as a kid. I too have gone back and re-watched the Digimon series, so I'll use that. When I watched it I remembered back to when I'd watch it as a kid and how much I really loved it and all those feelings came back. But I also ran into the same thing you did with it, realizing how bad some of the voice acting was in it.

That part didn't exactly get me down or anything, though. I kind of like going back and seeing how things affected me then and in a way seeing things in a whole new way. It's as if a veil was pulled away from my eyes and I'm really seeing them, and I like that experience. I get the same sort of thing with re-watching Disney movies -picking up humor in it that I didn't get as a child.

Nostalgia has always been a pretty good thing for me.

Nostalgia is very valuable to me but it doesn't always cloud my judgment. My car for instance has massive nostalgia value but I still rated it low in my review of it here.

I'm not really one to like nostalgia much, but I can become affected by it sometimes. This is especially true when I feel like my life isn't really going anywhere, and I think back to better times. My reaction to nostalgia however isn't so much a reminiscing of the "good old days", but rather a desire to try to re-create them in some fashion. I guess that's "productive nostalgia" of sorts, though it doesn't usually lead to anything significant.

Sometimes it clouds my judgement, but not to the point that it leads me to doing stupid things. That, at the very least, is something that I can be thankful for. :3

In the end.... Memories are nice, but that's all they are.

Nostalgia doesn't affect me, I'm not going to honestly say that Crash Bandicoot is the greatest game I ever played, or that it stands up to many more modern games, however, it was the game that got me into gaming and is mostly enjoyable so I still love it.

However, I will honestly say that Crash Team Racing is still just as fun as it was almost 12 years ago and is quite possibly the most fun racing game I've ever played.

So no, I am not clouded by nostalgia, something can be old and still good, sometimes when you look back, however, you can see the mistakes, I just accept that.

Guess items could also hold a lot of nostalgia for people to.
