So what do you Escapist Xbox users think of NXE after a year of it updating, being cheezy, adding SOME useful features? Do you miss the blade system that we used from 2005-08? or do you like the channel system?

what do you think of the avatars?

do you miss some the detailed information lost to MS making things "user friendly?"

do you want your guide themes and a full picture in the background?

if you could, would you change your theme back to the old system?

personally, i miss the blades on my dashboard. i also miss being able to simply change the color on the background of my guide. i know its a small detail, but really? i thought the 360 was all about customizing. i love the simplicity of the PS3 dashboard, and other sony products. i know the blades werent the most streamline thing, but at least we all knew how to use them.

the xbox was made for hardcore gamers, and with NXE, they decided to make things user friendly and accesible to everyone. its so hard to diagnose a problem on my wireless network without being able to see every little setting.

honestly, i rarley scroll through the dashboard, im always using the guide to look at things, even though the guide color scheme was obvioulsy made by someone who is color blind, and was than hit in the head with a lamp before choosing the colors.

Avatars are okay, I just wish they did more with them.

And honestly I love the NXE over the original. I don't know why some people had such a negative opinion of it when it was announced. It's not like it's the new Youtube channels.

I don't miss the blades since I know where they live. The only issue I have had with the NXE is last time I went online I saw a freakin Wal Mart add saying buy DA:O and some other game from us. I found that to be offensive. You want to put ads in that is fine. Give us a break on membership costs. Or make them subtle like the 'Splosion man shirt.

I do love the premium themes. Seeing my friends in Fallout 3 scenes is awesome. And the avatar awards are even more incentive for getting achievements.

The new dashboard looks cooler but I personally find it harder to navigate. Maybe it's just because I was so used to the old one. The premium themes look especially good but they're generally pricey and the friends tab on the dashboard is still useless compared to using the guide. I suppose we still have the blades on the xbox guide (which is much better than the old one) so that's not a major loss. The extra features like the quick launch are a nice addition, even if you don't use them loads. The avatars are still shit. The avatar store is retarded but the recent addition of avatar awards makes up for it. Once I can unlock some coveted gear then I might be more interested in my avatar although at the moment there's not much support for this and no chance of backward compatability. The community stuff like Inside Xbox is annoying but does help inform you of deals and such like. All in all I suppose it is better and I shouldn't really complain about extra features that I get for no additional charge. It would be nice to have the option of using the old style dashboard.

I've had no problem with it, good or bad, it's always just been another screen that keeps me from my games...

Though I do like that feature in the games section that shows your total gamerscore out of total possible gamerscore and the number of games you 100% completed... I'm up to TWO :).

The blade system was horribly outdated when it got replaced so I was happy to see the new version. One year on I don't really think about it, I can't get my Xbox online at the moment so I just have it boot straight into the game in the drive.

I've never been into tossy visual customisation so that stuff has never been a concern.

I prefer NXE to blades. NXE is fast, the blades were slooow.

Avatars are alright, pricey addons for them and really... they don't DO anything. Most features aren't available to XBL Australia so I can't comment on much more.
Other than install to HDD has been a very welcome addition.

the NXE is not user friendly. I wish i had the power to turn on and off which sections I am able to see, or which one comes up when i turn my xbox on. I don't give a shit what new things are on xboxlive. it all costs money and i'm not forking over more money for things that should be free because i already paid for a years worth of service. i hate how open and bland the new screens are also. floating boxes are disgusting and make the pages seem distasteful and unapealing. At least with the Blades, the information was all there, and it was filled, and all organized. Now it just looks like a shitty mac ripoff, and mac sucks.

I really don't mind the NXE. What I love the most is to see the newest stuff right on the dashboard instead of having to go through a few menus and such. It's easy and accessible, And I do like how the avatars are in between the Wii's Miis and Playstation's Home characters. It's a nice, equal balance.
