The downturn in the economy isnt Bush fucking everything up at the last minute you fool. Also you seem to think that bush took us back 10 year scientifically with massive book burning-esque destruction of science. You really shouldn't think, your clearly not equipped for it.

I'm not referencing the economy that Bush has helped destroy, I mean all the last minute bills he's passing that are doing significant harm.
What I mean by setting us back scientifically, (I was not specific enough, sorry) was the whole embryonic stem cell research ban he's put into place, along with other bills that make it harder to get science done.

As a democrat, I voted for him and I'm certainly happy that he won, but I think a lot of wide-eyed idealists out there are going to be disappointed when he doesn't just wave a magic wand and fix everything.

I'd have to agree with the ideal of "corporatocracy," and I'm just about as Liberal as the come. I really do believe that we would be better under some form of representational democracy...something along the lines of what other westernized European nations have. I feel that the peoples voices are better served under that form of government.

I didn't vote for Obama. But to be perfectly frank I wasn't impressed with either major candidate.

But it's a done deal now, he'll be in office in about 4 weeks. At this point I've decided to give Obama the benefit of the doubt. I won't call the guy out on anything until he's actually does screw things up.

Honestly though, I'm much more scared of the idiots in congress then I am of Obama.

This is sorta how I feel. I'm a republican, but I also wasn't too impressed with either candidate. I voted for McCain more because I'm strongly anti-abortion (ironic, because I'm positive McCain was fairly pro-abortion right up until he was nominated, that worm.)

I'm willing to give Obama some time, too. I wasn't too enthused about everything Bush did (and he was the republicans' main man for 8 years), so I'm perfectly happy to let Obama do what he may. If he's a good president, great. If he's a bad president, at least I didn't get my hopes up that he would descend from the sky and unify the world in peace and harmony, giving out a big bag of Skittles to every man, woman and child... Which is what I think some Democrats picture happening.

Even if he IS better than Bush, that won't necessarily make him a GOOD president. Only time will tell.

I didn't vote. I didn't vote in the last election either. In fact, I probably won't ever vote! There's just something about politicians I don't like.

This is absolutely true, and another reason why an Obama win is so great - Obama's campaign was financed through donations from individuals and grassroots organizations, not campaign contributions from corporations and lobbyists. The reason that America is such a "corporatocracy" is because politicians are repaying the favors that they owe to their financiers - lobbyists and special interest groups wouldn't spend the money if they didn't expect to be repaid in beneficial legislation, after all. Because Obama doesn't have this obligation, he's in a much better position to enact policies for the people rather than the corporations and fatcats.

This is another one of the reasons that I was so against McCain, actually. Obviously, I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum from you, but I always felt that McCain was one of the good guys on the Republican side - I felt his opinions were based in his experiences, that he really was the "straight talker." I feel that during the Republican leadership race, McCain realized that he's getting older and that if he didn't make it to President this time, he never would. In order to gain the popularity that he needed to get the nomination, he sold out to the worst of the Republican party - he went for base appeals to the religious right and single-issue voters. I would have been much happier with an old McCain presidency than I would have with several of the Democratic candidates, but early on in the race it became clear that he was no longer the old McCain.

In answer to the thread's question, I'm Canadian, so I didn't vote, but I would have voted Obama.

I voted for Obama...it's not like the other choices were any better. I had the options of voting for a black man or an elderly man who would have probably died before he was even sworn in. He even came with his own Nurse (Sarah Palin).

If I had to choose between a black guy/politician running mate or an elderly man with death on his face/a soccer mom who doesn't know her geography...i'm always going for the first choice.

It was William Clinton that started the destruction of the economy right before he left office.
As for my opinion on Barry or "Barrack" as he changed his name before going into politics, is that with Obama elected I now know that America is full of racists. This is the 1st time where the American people have voted for some one for their skin colour over polocies. Plus Obama also called Bush stupid.
