Say you're working as a doctor (Even if you're not, just pretend.) and one of the new patients is a dear family member/friend, and they were dying.
To save them you'd have to break protocol somehow. You saving them would result in the loss of your job and your liscence (you'd never be able to practice in your field again) and possible jail time because it'd be illegal for some reason. (Just go with it.)

Edit: Let's assume that to save the person you care about you'd have to ignore the patient that you're supposed to be working on.
That patient might not die, but you won't not be around to detect any new symptoms they might show.

Would you keep your required objectivity in that case, or would you screw the rules and save the person?

Considering that there was a House episode that was pretty similar to this on last night, I'd do what he did:
Not give a shit and break ethical protocol to save the person.

Where do you think the idea for this question came from?

Um... 1 question, would this illegal act threaten the life or safety of others? You're not clear on this part.

Well assuming that I am a good doctor then I would break protocols in a heartbeat and for anyone...

If there's a chance of saving someone's life (with the exception of intentionally harming someone else) then it should be taken under most circumstances.

Depends on the person but yea I would totally break protocol to save a dear friend/family members live.

I actually hadn't thought of that.

The interplay balancing those aspects is one of the fundamental constructs of personality. It should say something about everyone by how they respond, including myself.

Objectivity it is, one life is not worth 2.
