Thinking of getting Oblivion due to my love of swords and RPGs and most things involved in the game. Just wondering if its better for console or PC

Edit: It appears that the third option has come out as "Don". It at first said "Don't get Oblivion."

defnitly pc, modding value you see, it extends the game's lifetime well over what it had as a pure game, and the consoles dont have that

The amount of customization available on the PC version makes it infinitely better than the console version, which is already quite good.

PC.

Loads faster, and there's mods.

If your PC is old, there's a mod called Oldblivion, which lets old PC's run it. And it even looks (relatively) good.

Don't really know how to mod... what is that exactly?

PC definitely. Always: faster; better; cheaper; moddable; no waste of time achievments popping in, ruining the immersion; use of the ~ console to fix glitches or just have fun with.

Did I mention the mods.

Just go to a place that lets you download mods, download them, then follow the instructions(in a readme thats in 99.9% of mods) to install, and BAM! Awesomeness.

They're modifications made by users. They range from the simple, like adding new items to stores, to massive bugfixes(which are really just amazing), to complete overhauls and new landmasses.

mod, as in modify, in oblivion its easy, it boils down to search for what you might like on the internet, follow the instructions on where to dump the files ( easy, its like most of the time written down word for word ) and then the game has a button somewhere to choose what you want to load up into the game. this means things like extra hair for your charater, extra weapons, horses, houses, entirely new abilities etc, i once had a kick ass pipe i could smoke ingame for my wizard XD, verry wizzardy, smoking a pipe XD

Thanks :)... Also, if its not to much trouble do you have a Mod website recommendation, or is it generally a search on google, or what?

I have it on the 360 and am telling you it's good on both, but better on a PC. Just look up some of the mods on youtube and you'll see why. But PC users tend to use hyperbole when speaking poorly of the console version. Vanilla Oblivion is still a great game. So don't feel too bad if for some reason you have to get it for a console.

http://www.tesnexus.com/

There are similar Nexus sites for a lot of other games too (Dragon Age, FO3, New Vegas, etc)

I didn't like it... but I didn't use mods... so if you get it I suppose get it for the PC... but there are better RPS's out there... like Dragon Age or even older RPG's like Planescape Torment...

Had it on Xbox360 before, but I always thought it felt smoother to play on the computer.
Get it for your console if you're an achievement whore like me, otherwise I suggest you go for PC.

PC.
Mod the brains out of it (I reccomend Common Oblivion, abbreviated as Cobl. Google search it)
and revel in it's absolute beauty. Just try not to drag things around too much.
Also,Alchemy is your best friend. Make potions and poisons. I reccomend the "Lavish Tower" mod if you're gonna go alchemy heavy. It provides a home base out in the middle of god fuck nowhere that has a spellmaking/enchanting altar, and a grinder that allows you to grind up bones for bonemeal and gemstones for gem dust. The Lavish Tower requires Cobl.

I originally got it on the 360, played it for a year or two, then got it for the PC. I like both versions equally, for different reasons. Mods aren't really a big thing for me so I'm fine with the console version in that respect, but I like taking screenshots so the PC version is good for that. The console version just works straight away, whereas I had to pay £85 for a new graphics card before I could even run it on my PC... that said, the PC version looks noticeably better as a result.

For what it's worth, it's still my go-to game whenever I just want to waste a few hours... indeed, I spent nearly 12 hours on the 360 version yesterday despite having got all of the achievements (so long ago I can't even remember) and done nearly all of the quests.

I guess my answer to the original question would be: both versions have merit for different reasons, decide what's important for you and go with that.

Console defiantly. Always faster
It depends on if your computer is from the Middle Ages.

OT: PC. It has mods, it runs better, and the controls are superior.

This.

Still, OP, I strongly suggest you playing Morrowind, the third Elder Scroll game, first. Morrowind is a great game, but a lot of people more used the customs of more recent games have a hard time dealing with not having the streamlined what-nots of Oblivion.
And really, Oblivion is the better game in design, but as an rpg, Morrowind is generally superior. If that made any sense.

The PC/console argument I just quoted goes here, too, though considering Morrowind's like, $10 at most now, go ahead and get it for the PC. You can see if you like mods this way.

Also, if you go console and don't mind being a terrible cheater, take advantage of any free gold glitches on a few different generic character types (Your mage, rogue, warrior, etc) before you do anything. Also, I suggest saving immediately before you leave the tutorial section. From there, you can redefine the name, race skills, etc. without having to do the obligatory sewer level again.
