Depends on how obscene the person's name is. If it's just "***** Face" or something to that effect, I probably won't mind. If it's something ridiculously over the top that makes certain images enter my brain that I'd rather not have, I'll probably block them. I don't really want to associate with someone that immature anyway.

Sometimes they can be obscene, yet clever, and I'll usually laugh at that. I dunno, it's a fine line for me and I'm probably not being fair to everyone. Oh well.

I'm more concerned with what they put in chat to be fair, that shit is way more annoying. Played some Town of Salem last night, you'd be surprised at the amount of slurs used and how many times the word ****** showed up. Then again I guess that's what happens when you play when kids are gonna be online. :p
Seriously, I don't know why that game is such a pit of corruption and immaturity. I imagine that part of it is having the Jester role, which some people decide needs to be played by simply annoying everyone. Though I did first hear about the game through the SomethingAwful forum, so that probably has a lot to do with it.

Well, FPLOON is an acronym for "Fucking People Like Only On November"... /sarcasm

But seriously, I only give obscene names to either my dream eaters in Dream Drop Distance or to my finishing moves in Birth By Sleep, but only because I could get away with it... Other than that, that's as far as I would go in that department not because of "first impressions" BS, but because I just don't feel like naming myself something someone else has tried and either failed and/or succeed... especially if it's considered "obscene" to everyone else...

Personally i find it kinda funny. I'd never use such a name myself but i'm cool with it if its not designed to offend a particular group (say MasterRapist would be beyond the pale while ILickDick is just juvenile and worth a snigger)

It depends on if it's in bad taste. If it's something silly and meant to spark a quick chuckle then it's fine, but if it intentionally comes off as malicious then I'm a bit upset by it. Which just means I gun for them and their TF2 session is plagued by my focusing on killing them and only them. And eventually in humiliating ways.

I'm kicking myself that I can't think of examples on either side.

I myself usually tend to go the clever way, my Steam name, which hasn't been used in far too long, is Al Capwn. Boy was it fun to name the Tomislav "Al Capwn's Russian Keyboard"

Nah, I've had sheriffs calling people cunts, investigators calling people faggots and generally everyone but the Jester being an asshole. Sure, I've had annoying jesters but they're annoying in the fact they keep claiming roles that are gone and they're way too obvious. There's just something about ToS that attracts idiots. :p

I also kinda blame the influx of fans from some YTers, although that is how I discovered the game myself. :/

The closest I've come to an obscene name is naming a mushroom themed Sylvari in guildwars after psychedelic mushrooms as shitty joke. As for other peoples usernames...I don't take much notice of them unless I'm playing with them a lot or suspect they are a troll. I don't like obscene names and I'm not likely to strike up a conversation with them but I'm not going to automatically block someone for it. I just might think they have childish sense of humour.

I'm still surprised my username hasn't set off any filters. On my home planet, this is an incredibly vulgar term and I would probably be assaulted for saying it about someone's mum.
Eh, a while ago, I called someone on this forum "Zachary Amaranth" by mistake, and they were ever so upset.

Oddly enough, I don't think they'd even heard of your planet.
Either way, that was a pretty nasty thing to do to someone.

No, I don't. I consider obscene usernames typically screams for attention (and I prefer being low-profile)

I don't really mind obscene user names, and I'll admit they can be charming if they are fairly clever, like Dixie Normous mentioned above.

I myself managed to make one by accident. I have common MMO character I make called Nipakhet, It is an attempted combination of Neith and Pakhet, when I realized using those 2 as a First name Last Name combo would not fit in the character limit. When it came time to group up with others for dungeons, and character names were shortened for ease of communication. EVERY GROUP, was quick to call me Nip or Nippy and make every joke possible out of it. So I went from having a character named after 2 war goddesses to a character named nipple.

I created an alt once on runescape named "masterb8me". With this character, I would run into the wild, try to get into a PVP fight, and spend the whole time talking about how their big sword made me feel (generally good). Also, typed moaning.

In my defense, I was 15 and bored at the time. The joke got old after two fights, and I never used the character again.

As long as no one starts accusing me of being a murderer all because my name is a combination of "Jack the Ripper" and "Jack O' Lantern" (Can be alternatively perceived as the Irish Jack the Ripper), then I'm all good.

CAPTCHA: "inside out"................really CAPTCHA.....really?
(This thing is starting to scare the piss out of me guys, is this normal?!)

Don't recall using anything obscene on my main accounts, but i did name my dwarf shop character 'FuckingFuck' which i used to sell leftowers from my bow when i failed to enchant it, not very original, but since i named the shop title 'draconic bow +12' and all there was was a bunch of crystals i think people understood what happened and made fun of my misfortune.

My name describes discomfort caused by something online and it has a swear in it, but it's named after my internet router. I made it when I wasn't feeling very witty, which is always, and have grown fond of it. If you see this name on the net, chances are it's me. On forums where I think I'd get filtered, I use PITAI.

I've tried obscene usernames to test the profanity filter, just out of curiosity/boredom, but never kept the names etc.

However, I voted other based on the fact that; I may temporarily change my in game name, to something some might view as obscene, as part of an inside joke while playing with friends.

Other than those two scenarios I keep to Dryzdale (or variations thereof).

Boo fucking hoo. Most people play games so they don't have to act seriously. What surprise is it that people don't neccesarily take their username seriously then? As long as they aren't named after hate speech, I couldn't care less. (And even then, I'd just find it tasteless, I wouldn't have a panic attack over it like some tumblerinas.

Well, my name emanates teen angst of the highest order so I'm not one to judge others by their names, but I think over-the-top insulting names can be pretty funny.

What I'm against is profanity filled usernames. Whenever I play with someone who has one I instantly have a lower opinion of them. It comes across as immature and dumb.
