I have a question about OCD.
This research is used for school, so please dont lie about this.
I need examples of OCD, and bad things it causes to happen and what you fear will happen if you dont follow throughwith it.
Thank you for helping me.

A friend of mine had diagnosed OCD, causing him to wash his hands over 50 times a day. Because of that his hands were always raw and cracked, as he kept rubbing the skin off. I can't tell you what he feared would happen otherwise, I don't think it was just a germaphobia, as he was a pretty outdoorsy person.

You should probably specify what OCD actually is. A lot of people think that if you have a few obsessive compulsive habits then you have OCD; which is not the case.

If I use an example: Someones DVD's are all in alphabetical order, that is an obsessive compulsive trait. However, if you were to put a DVD in the incorrect order and they do not get angry/frustrated/berserk until it's back where "it belongs" then they do not have OCD.

If the OC's become damaging/restrictive to the persons life then it's a disorder, otherwise it's just a quirk they have (Damaging because not satisfying their compulsion affects their ability to function normally).

That's a very simplified version of what it is.

Doesn't Howie Mandel have OCD?

I have some habits that could be considered compulsive, but nowhere near OCD level. And I put my DVDs in alphabetical order because it makes it easier to find the one I'm looking for. I don't think that should be considered obsessive, just logical.

The voice of reason resounds over the battlefield. Putting cds in alphabetical order isn't a sign of OCD, it's just common sense. I keep them in a massive, orderless pile though.

I'm like that with my books, but i classify them by genre. I suppose everyone has some sort of OCD, as everyone has their own little peculiarities.

This is a little weird, but its in the name of science so.

I have to tear skin off the crown of my head sometimes until it bleeds. It starts subconciously then i cant stop, and have to keep picking until I have reached some aura of calm but then I have to brush my hair with my brush. It I cant find my brush I get angrier and angrier and panicky. I hate it, but I can head it off if i dont start, but it generally happens once a day, its hard to stop in public since I cant get to my brush, I just have to do SOMETHING that resembles hair brushing else I'll be unable to function. I CANNOT speak to anyone during this time, they'll make me angry if they try. It can even interrupt gaming which gets me down. The picking can last anywhere from 30 seconds to half and hour. Im not sure how its started and I dont know what fear I percieve from not doing the hair brushing (I CAN not pick, but I have to catch myself wanting to first).

I do work it in with life though, if it happens in public I've learnt to control it and live with it, and my fingers can substitute if I cant get to my brush. Its worse when it bleeds though, it itches like hell then.

Hope I helped sort of =)

I find it hard too relate my OC to anything other than games. Which is wierd. But I'll try.
My main thing is that I for some reason have to have everything round to fives or tens, and i get really annoyed if i have lets say 9 of something and I will go out of my way to make sure I have 10. To relate this to games the easiest example is in RTS's where I have "5 swords men, 10 horsemen, 5 archers and so on" this proves to be a hinderence especially if I'm low on resources because I'll stop making anything else until i have 5/10 of the thing I'm currently making.

I also find myself lining things up (glasses in the cupboard, books on the shelf etc) so they look nice and tidy.

I like to scream real loud when I'm by myself. I'll yell"SAY MY NAME! SAY IT!" then I'll respond in a female voice"MATT, OH GOD MATT" and this is when I play Fallout 3

You don't happen to be good at maths do you? I have that same sort of thing-hate it when things are out of pattern/shape/symmetry. And if you have say 4 of something, you should either have 3 or 5 of them. I think this is probably due to my mathematical brain.

If I can't find anything, I have to find it immediately. And if anyone stops me from finding it, I'm thinking where it could be. And if I'm stuck on a question (especially maths), I must find the answer!!!

I have many obsessive habits, but not full blown OCD. My uncle is a clinically diagnosed case, however, so the genes run in the family.

Yeah, I wouldn't call it a disorder for me. More like just a tendency, but not something I can't ignore with a little concentration. Just little things, like constantly rearranging my bookshelf, first alphabetically, then by genre, then by number of pages, etc. Or, in junior high and high school, stepping on EVERY SINGLE sidewalk crack the mile I walked to and from school. Just a few examples, but I never HAD to do it; if I concentrated I could easily ignore any urges like that.

I have a bit of OCD. I don't really see how it's a serious mental disorder that can be diagnosed, though. Well I guess it is in some people, but it's not either you have it and it takes over your life and you need treatment, or you don't. I have it just a little bit. Enough that I know the feeling, and it's an inconvenience sometimes, but it's certainly not a problem. And I've managed to fight it fairly effectively when it gets too annoying.

It's compulsion, not fear.

I have a lighter form of OCD. OCD is actually part of an "umbrella" of disorders (ADD & ADHD being among them).

For a long time I'd rap my knuckles against things as I passed by. Or I'd quietly repeat lines from a conversation (usually if they had more impact in the conversation) minutes or hours later. The real problem was in school and I'd have trouble shifting gears from subject to subject. I have no real memory of the problem, but apparently teachers had communicated it to my parents.

I still notice the problem in conversations sometimes. I also tend to forget to give proper segues for other people to keep up with topic changes or transitions to related subjects.

I didn't realize that that counted as OCD. I mean, I do things compulsively, but I can stop myself when I realize I'm doing it. In that case yes I have OCD. I will moth words to songs without realizing it, I constantly flick my pocket knife open and shut, and other suck things. I do know that whenever I see a stack of square objects, I have the need to order them from largest to smallest, bottom to top, and align the edges.
