Are you the type who runs into a room guns blazing, determined to shoot at every living thing until it's dead? Or are you the kind of person who hangs back at his base, builds a gigantic fortress, and waits for the enemy to come to you so he can be annihilated by your death cannons?

I usually like to rush forward as fast as possible in an FPS like CoD4, because this way I can often flank the enemy from the side and quickly finish the fight. Although in RTSes I prefer to hoard a godly amount of resources and make layers upon layers of walls.
So, what do you like more?

How could anyone not say both when this counts for all games? Yeah I like driving defensively on PGR 4 except those nasty drivers occasionally hit my car.

Yeah that pretty much covers it.

I lean towards defensive online tipically offline if I'm solo then it's usually Bloodlust or Mechanical Frenzy then.

I'm a RTS person myself. I mostly play Dawn of War, which can pride itself in being a very offensive game (that sounds wrong). Especially when playing Imperial Guard you can't falter on your offense at any time, but at the same time you have to tech, so it's a lot of micro managing. I love to micro, so it's no problem for me.

So, yeah: I voted "Attacking".

I'm an FPS gamer, and I normally play the defensive offense strategy. I'll sit behind a wall, lean in and flush enemies out, then move in to clean up the remaining folks.

It depends. Sometimes in CounterStrike: Source I charge in with Dual Elites blazing and grenades flying all over the shop, and other times I camp the hostages (Assault is a good map for this, especially on servers that have the Use key enabled so you can stack up a good barricade) and counter-attack from there.

With RTS games... It depends, really. Sometimes I "offensively turtle" -- which means I expand, set down walls and then expand from there, pushing the walls forward as I go. Sometimes I plonk down a bunch of Boyz Hutz and throw an endless stream of free (With the right research) Ork Boyz at the enemy until they either fall before the green tide, lag out from all the action happening at once or their computer crashes if they have Persistent Corpses on.

It depends on the game, but if you are in a situation where the other team is invincible and seems to make your bullets do **** then you might as well leave.

In RTS I do like to be sure by the time I eventually make my move. Generally the enemy will have dashed so many of his men against my walls I will basically have nearly won when I move in on his base.

im not stranger to rushing in all guns blazing but i always make sure before i go in that i will be able to sustain enemy fire. theres no point in being extremely powerful offensively if you spent most of your time healing because of bad defense.

FPS's I usually charge in like a lunatic, often with massive failure following suit.
RTS again I tend to form a defense out of offensive things (like instead of turrets or walls I will make a wall of tanks that have turrets on them :p) and then pretty much bugger myself up by sending my units off to attack, leaving me wide open ¬_¬

I'm a mix of the two, not only depending on what type of game it is, but also what mood I'm in.

Sometimes I'm a steamrolling rage of guns and tanks and insanely oversized cutting implements, while other times I'm happy to hang back and make them come to me (with my crosshair firmly placed in the doorway, or 5000 gun-turrets simply waiting to pop up out of the ground).

So all in all, it really depends on what type of day I've had at work.

Thats actually kinda sad/stupid when I think about it.

I always use both, in FPSs I'm either right into the action getting PWNED or PWNING or I'm away from the fighting sniping anyone I can.

I think a good balance of both is the best approach. Doesn't matter how good your offense is, eventually you are going to take a hit, and if your defense stinks, well then down you go. You can't hurt what you can't hit. Still, I have had many instances indeed where the best defense was a good offense. I can recall many a time I went in blazing throwing the kitchen sink at them, and I can also remember numerous times I sat back and just dared the enemy to try to make it alive through my gauntlet of hellfire.

I'm a negotiator in RTS's. Unless it's fixed teams. I'll win my battles with words instead of armies.

As for attacking, I don't need a to turtle a base to kill an enemy player. I remember in Age of Empire 2, I burned forests to get in the weak spot of my enemies bases. Some argue it's cheating, but they're the victims.

For defending, It depends if the player could be a valuable asset to my strategies.

In a FPS game, just pray you're not in my sniper scope.

This may sound weird coming from someone who's Xfire profile states 'Death From Above' as his method of engagement but, although I am very aggressive, I always run if I don't think I can handle the heat. I think that, in a way, that is defensive.

When I'm on the ground I can quickly switch between offence and defence depending on the situation, and I think that that is what makes a good player.

In FPS I like to peak my head out and let the idiot chargers come to me.

Back when I was playing Call of Duty 2, my tactic was that after I killed someone, I'd scurry to a place near by and drop down. Usually someone came looking to see where the hell I was, they died before they could find me.

I'm always defensive. Whether it's COD 4, FIFA, or any other game...I find that the longer I wait, the more success I'll have. People who play online games don't seem to be very patient, and exploiting that fact usually nets me a fair bit of wins!
