I'm more of a lurker than a poster on this board but I have noticed a LOT of hate for the Wii. Anyone care to explain?

Edit: To continue...

The Wii is probably my 2nd favourite gaming system (PS2, Wii then PC), and I just don't understand when people say there are no good games for the Wii. Despite the percentage of shovelware there's just as much, if not more, good games for the Wii as its next-gen counterparts. Admitedly theyre are all parts of mega-series (e.g. Mario) but that doesn't make them bad. The games on PS3 and 360 seem to rely on 'breath-taking visuals' to cover up major inadequacies. For example MGS4 was an utter pile of shite (and I say this as an utter fanboy of the previous 3, MGS3 being my favourite game ever) but it seemed most of the reviews were won over by the nice shiny graphics and slick gameplay mechanics that contributed NOTHING to the game (I'll stop there before it becomes an MGS4 rant.) To summarise the majority of the major hits on 360 and PS3 are just... boring. You get these 1st and 3rd person shooters are nothing more that the same game over and over again with different shiny new graphics. With the Wii you get something new and exciting, admitedly a few staple genres don't do very well (eg FPSs) but there are still some brilliant games to be had. At this point I think it's important to mention that I do have all these consoles, wii, ps2, ps3, 360 and PC so I'm not just defending it because I have one. All the consoles have their up sides. The PS3 is basically a multimedia system (which I rarely use for games), the 360 has Fable 2 and decent downloadable games and the PC has Team Fortess 2 ('nuff said) but none are as fun as the Wii. Only the Wii makes me giggle like a little girl when playing some ridiculous multiplayer game.

tldr: the wii is more funner :p

If I wanted physical excercise when playing computer games, well... I would just go outside and run around like a douche because at least thats where you are supposed to run rather than in my living room... in the same spot... for hours!

The reason you hear/see so much hate for it is because people keep making threads asking why the Wii is so bad, or what do you think of it.
As for why the hatred exists, I think people that hate it (yes I mean you too Yahtzee) are ignorant in that they overlook anything good about the console and live in a fantasy world where only the bad exists and their ironically immature claims of "its for babies" are justified. If you don't like the console, fine, but considering the fact that numerous members here (those of the mature persuasion) own and enjoy their Wii, you'd think it was about time you figured out that this particular opinion is wrong.

Now I may be a Wii lover (good lord don't take that the wrong way I beg you) but even I can see its flaws which would imply that it was somewhat pointless to make this thread. However since I really couldn't care less if it was a repeated topic or not I'll add a point to it.

The major problem is the fact that the Wii's game library is chock-a-block full of crap, making the good games less obvious. Now this is a pretty big thing, that can't be denied, however I find myself twitching everyone blames "stupid Nintendo" for all the "damn shovelware" I'm sorry but if you havn't noticed, the majority of Nintendo's games are great, its the third party developers that are shovelling heapfuls of manure onto the existing pile. Basically the game quality IS a fault with the Wii, but blaming Nintendo is just plain ignorant.

There are some good games on it but not enough to currently maintain my interest. Especially when I want to play 4 different games, none of which are on the Wii.

The Wii has potential that needs to be utilized. So far neither first party nor third party developers have fully accessed it.

Me and 2 other people voted that we hate it only because Yahtzee hates it, but we really hate it because of the games. Namely: Mario, Zelda, Metriod, and shovleware.

Is it possible that because the average quality of the games on the Wii is so shit (due to the shovelware) that people overlook the mreally really good games?

The Wii isn't about physical exercise. Wii Fit may be, but not the Wii itself.

Ever tried Mario Kart Wii? Like all the Mario Karts, its crazy and pretty good fun. Because this one's on the Wii you can use the remote as a wheel, one the major selling point of the game. It's not as easy as the other control options. Its fun though, and if you beat anyone with it they know - there's a wheel symbol next to your name. There's also a few other things to get you frantically waving your arms about in all sorts of fun manners.

Shaun White Snowboarding for the Wii. Pretty fun on its own, (completely different to the other consoles' versions of the game) using the Wiimote. Then you go out and get Wii Fit which comes with the balance board. Shaun White lets you use it as a snowboard, which is really, really cool. And fun.

Wii Sport works pretty well too. Having a game of tennis with someone is heaps better when you're swinging your arm compared to just pressing buttons. Golf, baseball, boxing and bowling are all good too, and much better than your standard simulation, even if its just because its interactive.

My sister owns a wii which I'm quite happy about, it means I get to play all the mario/zelda games which I've so enjoyed growing up. But they're the only good thing on the wii, the rest of it is not worth anyones time and are designed only to try and make money (which they very well do).

I don't hate it, but its the first Nintendo console which I've stayed well away from the non-Nintendo games.

I love the Wii. There is nothing wrong with it (if you comment about that you better *gets mouth covered to block out words*) XBox is to violent it's always blood and guts. PS3 ehhhhhhh kinda in the middle. I don't see why people call Wii stupid just because of stuff that limits on what it can do. Well if you agree to that then you better open you eyes because there is something alway wrong with each console.

I will laugh the day Apple comes out with a VG system and kicks XBoxs a** XD
