PS3.

Get a PS3. 360's great for a little while, but they only last about a month or 2 at a time.

Get a PS3.

I'd say PS3, and this is not biased, I have a gaming pc, a 360, and a PS3.
If he already has a gaming pc, there is not much need for a 360, as most 360 exclusives are either ported, or in the process of being ported to PC. PS3 has more exclusives that will never hit pc, so that's why I would edge towards that option.

Some of the best 2D fighters can be found on the PS2. However, if you plan on playing more than just fighters, go with the 360. Cheaper than the PS3, better games than the Wii.

Has more good titles? Really now? Care to elaborate. Because last I checked the exclusives were leaning heavily in the direction of PS3.

6% Wii, I f****** lol'd. Obviously, 360 for me, and I've literally only had it 2 weeks and a Wii for 2 years and I hate that pile of excrement with a passion. The last game I played fully was Brawl. Yeah, that long ago...

I think, well, now that 360 has MVC2 and an already strong line up of quality games (despite having a fetish for FPS... you know it's true) it's the superior console. It breaks a lot, though. Mine hasn't yet, obviously. One downside is the online community. They're a bunch of arrogant childish giant c****, SFIV being the worst offender. Never in my life have I met such irritating people.

Xbox 360, solid group of games, and cheaper than the monolith.
god more people thinking it's cheaper! in the long run how much is the xlive account /year, wireless internet adapter, and how many times have you got the RROD (i think ever 360 owner i know is at least 2, most about 4) which had a limited warranty. the 360 IS cheaper to get the system, but more expensive in the long run. people need to stop basing everything on the price. and either has a solid group a gamers :p

really while your friend might want it just for 2d fighting games, i wanted a playstation for FF9, and when i had played that, as well as 8 7 and 6 i moved onto other things. look at some of the other games he likes and plan ahead looking at exclusives. both 360 and ps3 have some good games, most of which are multiplatform, i really would tell him to took at what else he might want to use it for in the future. IMHO both might little too expensive to be getting just for 2d fighters.

But if you looka few months down the release scheduale you see that most of these so called 'exclusives' will be out on 360 about 6 months after PS3 gets them.

PS3, if he is willing to pay up. It's certainly for an uprising, with new exclusive titles as well as shared titles. It will rise and be a great console soon enough. Just be patient with it. At least that's what I think will happen.

I've had a 360 for over 2 years now, and the only problem I have with it that it sometimes screws with Fable 1 (erratic load times, missing graphics).

I'd go for the 360 if you really want a console whilst already having a computer, purely because I have one and lack experience with the other options.

Not even slightly true, 360 doesn't get ps3 exclusives, seriously name one ps3 exclusive that has gone to 360.

If it were me, I'd say 360. However, I know nothing about 2-D fighters or which consoles they're best on, so I really have no idea.
Sorry this is not on topic, but you have such an awesome avatar

OT: I would go with either the Wii or PS3 because most 360 games you can play on his PC and it's good to have some variation

I just think its funny how specific he is with gaming, I could understand fighting games only, Steet-fighters, knew Tekken coming out, but to want only 2D Fighting games I think is a little strange. To each their own, I meant no insult.
Didn't think you meant any insult. Just curious why it was odd.

[edit] I think he's just trying to relive a some of the games we had when we were growing up. Back then 2D fighters were huge, and he hasn't had a console since the SNES. He'll get other shit as time goes on.

Each console has it's own group of pros and cons. It also depends what kind of games he likes since each console seems to have almost a 'specialty'. Such as the 360 putting out a lot of shooters and the Wii primarily dealing with games for people who game casually.

Based on personal experience, I would recommend the 360 since it has a lot of solid titles and you can still play a lot of original Xbox games on there. Also, if he's never played anything with motion sensing then it would be better to start off with.
