A buddy of mine has an old school NES and he says he enjoys those 8-bit games better than the PC,PS3, and Xbox 360 games we have today. I disagree because the games we have now have better controls, story, gameplay, graphics and just a better experience altogther. i mean, Batman: AA is way better than that 8-bit Mario stuff. But what do you think? New games are PS1 and up (because they use CDs) and old games are N64 and down (use game cartidges).

You really shouldn't put the N64 in old game scategory if you put PS1 in new, seeing that PS1 predates the N64 by over a year.

Apart from that obvious mistake, I agree with you.
I enjoy new games more. Most older games are just too simple. And i'm not talking bout the graphics here.

How you classify old and new is a bit backward...

PS1 is older than N64. N64 also is technically superior to the PS1. Cartridges are just data storage.

On topic: To be honest, what blinds a lot of retro fans is nostalgia. If you get someone who only ever wants to play Super Nintendo just because "it's retro", then suggest they try some Mega Drive games they never played in their youth, it wont have the same appeal despite it being from the same time period.

I reckon the new games kick the shit out of and viciously rape the old games. The old games just suck total dick in my awesome opinion, Uncharted 1 & 2, Assassins Creed 1 & 2, Final Fantasy 10,12, 13, crisis core and dissidia to name a few are infinitely better than ancient mario and sonic titles.

Older games aren't better than new games. The fundamental difference is that the industry is so bloated now that people oftentimes confuse 'good' games with 'not bad' games, thus flooding the shelves with mediocre to good-but-entirely-insubstantial titles that in the end of the day fail to leave an impression. That's about the only higher ground classic gamers can claim, since everything else has progressed, refined and most of the time improved over the dated mechanics of those eras.

Having said that, whether he enjoys older games more or not is an entirely different point. Maybe he digs the classic platformers and the 8-bit sound effects; that's totally fine. I enjoy watching the original Transformers and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, while I can't stand much of the more recent stuff, because I find them lacking certain things I liked about said older shows. That has less to do with objective view of the industry and its progress and more with sheer taste.

Boo! Vs. thread, boo!

Btw, didn't the 64 come out after the PS1? So shouldn't we count it in the "newer" games category?
