The great thing about omission is you can say something that is completely truthful, just with the vital bits missed out...

Depends on the person you're dealing with.

Not telling your wife you got fired because you think she will leave you is lying (albeit by omission).

Not telling your old work colleagues that your wife has left you is not.

There is a certain level of socially acceptable omission. I don't tell everyone on the Escapist certain things about my life because they're irrelevant and/or uninteresting. I do inform my friends and family alot about my life those relationships involve a much greater level of mutual openess and lack of omission.
