I pre-order games if I want to access the game or it's content earlier than other people. For example Halo Wars, I pre-ordered it so I could play the mythic maps early.

well, the gifts should be reasonable, but pre-ordering is a good way of knowing you'll get the game if you know it will sell like crazy (i.e.halo 3).

I'm thinking of pre-ordering batman arkham asylum so that i can download the joker maps on the day it arrives, because i'm concerned you might have to pay for them day 2 onwards.

I like it when pre-orders come with a little something extra, annoyingly half the time you cant even pick them up at release date, so there is almost no point unless you get something cool with it, for example arkham asylum is giving some codes for ingame stuff, and the collectors addition has a batarang in it. That to me makes it so much more appealing to purchase a pre-order, in fact its one of the only things that makes it ok at times.

The gifts should be mandatory. Why the hell else are you going to give gameslop your money weeks (for some suckers, months) before you get the game? So the store can make money on the interest? They already have quite a racket by making you preorder any new game you want., you may as well get what you can out of it.

But that's why I don't shop at those hellholes.

Pre-orders where I live are always free so I do it quite often, but there's rarely any gift. Street fighter 4 came with a really really cheap, little Chun Li figure, and that's the only one I can think of off hand. It'd be nice if more pre-orders came with gifts.

I've seen the major problem with pre-ordering games...they sometimes suck. Yes I know there are other ways to pre-order games, like paying the 5 dollar fee so that they'll hold onto it etc. but I'm talking talking about putting all your money into it.I'm thinking about pre-ordering a game called Section 8 at a place where you STOP for GAMES... and the pre-order gift is this awesome blaster and this lion helmet thingy. Also about pre-order gifts is it forces people to buy the game without knowing how bad or how good it is (Starwars The Force Unleashed for example)but if it's good then some people throw the gifts at your face, I get so mad when my friend brags about his stupid flame warthog when we're playing halo wars on live. But another way of thinking about it is that pre-order gifts HURT the game, because lets say, a million people pre-order a sucky game. The news of it sucking will spread like wild fire.
So here's the question... Should games have pre-ordering gifts?
