Do you have one favorite game, or several? I know many people who state that X is their favorite title, but personally, I find it impossible, especially across different genres. For example, my favorite RTS is WH40k: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, but my favorite action-adventure-platformer-whatever the hell it is is Jak 3. If you asked me to choose between them I couldn't. What about you? Do you find that one title stands above the rest, or do you have several favorites?

No, no I do not.

Enjoyment isn't an easy thing to precisely quantify.

Besides, one's tastes and opinions are subject to change over time.

Yeah, I don't think I could pick just one favorite. Between Mass Effect 2, final fantasy 7, and forza 4. I play them all so much that I don't think I could pick one over the other.

I have several favorites, though depending on my mood they will switch of which one is my most favorite. I usually try to keep it down to a handful though, and there is always one flavor of the month game in there. If you're wondering my three main favorites are DMC3/4, Okami, and Persona3/4 with the flavor of the month being Nier. Yes I am just now getting around to playing it and I love it.

You can't really compare across most genres, so I don't have a favorite game. Though there are a few that really altered my perception of gaming that I would rank pretty high either due to nostalgia or merit. Pokémon Sapphire, MarioKart, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Halo 3, Oblivion, Demon's Souls and Deus Ex come to mind.

Perhaps I should have been more specific in the OP
I absolutely agree with this sentiment, I mean one favorite game at a given point in time. For example, Tuesday you might think that Ocarina of Time blows everything else out of the water, but Wednesday you feel the Witcher is superior in every way. I would still categorize that as having one favorite, it has just changed over time. I'm not trying to invalidate your post, by the way, I'm just trying to clarify the OP.

While I understand that sentiment, when someone favors one genre over others, it may be easier to have a definitive favorite. If I like shooters better than any other genre, I may think that Halo is the best game. Period. Alternatively, I might feel that Halo does shooters better than any other game does their genre, and therefore would favor Halo.

Many. Can't really decide which of the games I really enjoyed I happened to enjoy the most. I just know I really enjoyed them. Comparing is pointless anyway.
Well, I personally find it interesting to analyze a game for what elements I enjoyed and what elements I didn't, and compare them against other games' elements. Beyond the aspect of interest, comparing games to one another and acknowledging the elements you enjoy can help you make better purchases in the future, both with time and money, so you don't waste either on a game you don't enjoy, or enjoyed less than a different title.

Yes, I do have one favorite. It has been Shadow of the Colossus for years. There's a boatload of games I like a lot, and some have come very close in my esteem for them. But my liking for SotC is just that much above plain having fun (indeed, it is by no means the game I've had the most fun with), that it just stands above them. Still, my taste in game is constantly evolving, so odds on one day I'll have another favorite.

Niet! There are a wide variety of games that I like, and I can't just pick one.

Although, if I had to pick a game that gave me the most total enjoyment, it would probably be

No.

Forza 4, Red Dead Redemption, Mount and Blade: Warband, Dawn of War 2+, Civilization IV+ & V, Saints Row 2/3, GTA IV+, Dynasty Warriors et al... they're all completely different types of games and are all favourites of mine, but in different ways.

Even if we compare the most similar games on my favourites list, GTA IV, Saints Row and Red Dead Redemption, each one offerers me unique things that are entirely absent from the other two, so they're not really competing for the title of my one favourite game as it doesn't exist.

Never had a favorite game. Only in different time periods. At the moment, my favorite game now is Halo Reach. Yesterday it was Arkham City. Day before that it was Pokemon White. That morning it was Bastion.

I can't pick a favourite colour pen to write with, let alone videogame! It's difficult to quantify how much you like something, it depends way too much on your mood when you ask me as to what 'favourite' I choose.

I have a long list of favourites, but one that will always remain on top, Final Fantasy IX. So yes, I do have one specific favourite but also a whole bunch of close runner-ups which I love dearly.

If I had to choose one on a whim, Legend of Zelda: Majora`(fuck you keyboard)s Mask. If not, then I don`t have one. There are too many good games to decide on a single best game.

At the moment, my favourite game is GTA IV: The Lost and Damned. If it was as long as Red Dead Redemption it would be perfect. Also, RDR needs a PC version. RIGHT. NOW.

While I do have one favorite video game, Legend of Mana, anything beyond that is sort of up in the air. I think it's important to really look at yourself and the product in question and decide a one true favorite, but beyond that you don't need to rank things.

oh there is no possible way to just have "one"

Plus depending on nostalgia, how recently I played it, and what genre I'm feeling at the moment, that can change drastically.

However I do tend to consistently throw in both the Kotor games, they are truly some of my favorite I have ever played and I don't think their is any other game out there that I get more immersed in then those two.

I like many games of different genres it can be hard to pick a stand out one to say this is it the prime example of my taste in games. Too many choices to pick just a single thing.

I have many favorites, but one stands high above the rest:

Xenogears.

Although it's even better when it stands beside Xenosaga 1-3, who boost Xenogears to even greater heights on the shoulders of their mighty backstory.

All hail Xenogears, the greatest of games.
