Well, I just finished the first of many online classes for my Chinese course. That's right, I'm taking Chinese online. I'm still not quite sure how this is supposed to work.

So, I guess what I'm asking is, what's your opinion of online classes?

I took an online class last semester, and it sucked. Harder then hell to do online class projects when half the people don't check it until the last day...

School is school but are you taking the Chinese language? Wouldn't it be Mandarin then?
Well...yes. It would. But it's far past my bed time, and I'd just rather use my school's cop-out umbrella term than my brain.

School generally sucks in general so I guess it can't be too much worse. It might be weird not having a human there to talk to about it. But I find in classes no one pays any attention 90% of the time. I would just day dream and pretend to work a lot of the time, and college/university classes seem to just be a time for people to go on facebook these days.

Do they look the same in the eyes of employers/higher learning?
Usually, yes.

Though, if Harvard or Yale doesn't accept you, their loss.

Fair enough, I've been there. Speaking as one student to another, you'd better go to bed. The Escapist I'VE ruined a few school days spending time here. That is, of course, if you can't choose your school hours. If you can select when you take your classes, I'm eternally jealous.

Well, my friend, I am a lazy sob and chose to only take Tuesday and Thursday classes. But, I digress, I definitely need to go to bed, before I start sounding like an idiot.

Too late. Too late, indeed.

My vote will depend on whether you're talking about these "online colleges" (which I personally think are a joke, and most companies won't take a degree from there very seriously. It's definitely better than nothing, and people that go should be applauded for doing something to get a slightly better job, but it's going to take them longer to get far with it. I put them on par with the colleges like Everett or National American University that advertise at 3am and have campuses in strip malls) or just taking online classes when you're in college, as well as regular classes.

As for the latter, I see no problem with them, but I wouldn't ever take a class that I expected to be difficult. I was able to do high school health class as online, and that was awesome. Other gen-ed credits where I more or less had a grasp of the subject and just needed the official credit I wouldn't mind doing online.

But, there's a lot to be said for having a teacher that can more easily explain (and if necessary) visually illustrate, and answer questions.

Online classes are generally a bad idea from a pedagogical perspective; especially in the -social sciences-.

You can look up information on Google. True education is not in the accumulation of information, contrary to popular belief.

Well, I'm currently going to a community college, because it's free. So, it's not one of those quack job online colleges.

It just feels like the 13th and 14th grades, is all.

I cannot take online classes. Simply because they don't feel real at all, and I know I'd put off all the work I need to do.
Any reading that has to be done online would be skimmed over, I'd probably forget to take every test, and rarely do any assignments. I really need for there to be some kind of physical reminder, such as going to class.

This is why I don't like them, I lack the self-motivation and self-monitoring for online coursework. It's too easy for me to get distracted by the internet and not do anything. I'm not particularly thrilled that my Calc 2 class this semester has online homework, that was the thing I did the worst at in Calc 1.

Online classes are a major pain in the ass. Between needing to check everything, to needing to listen to the lectures during spare time, to the fact that the labs for my online classes don't work on my computer.
