Games like Halo 3 and Super Smash Bros Brawl have a replay feature to save your best moments during multiplayer. To show off to your friends or for bragging rights. But some games don't have this feature. I wonder why. It's a nice feature to have in games. Plus, don't tell me you haven't had a moment when you did something awesome and you wished you caught that on camera.

Oh yes. Lots of Falcon PunchesFavorite moment happens at the 5:13 Mark

Sometimes, but when you think about it who uses the tools - a niche of a niche. So unless it was for a big name game like Brawl or Halo where they have the development team, money and time to create something like the replay feature I'd rather not have them in my games.

And I assume that is the reason (to answer your OP) - development time and resources are spent on the game itself rather than on these features.

It might cost too much money or they can't be arsed.
I like it in Halo 3 though.

*sigh* So many moments of my mad skillz being recorded and saved.

Its good in the two new halo games, and super smash bros, but I never use it in any other games with it.

Also just because replay features are included does not mean that they will be reached or used. I am sure that we have all had moments where we have simply said "fuck this" to attaining an achievement or unlocking a bonus that we have deemed to be simply pointless.

Another good point. But I like the feature. Some games like the Call of Duty series doesn't need it. But it would a nice feature.

To me, this feature always seems redundant... I think the kind of gamer who wants to show off on the net would just record what's happening and post it on any video hosting site anyway, so the only thing adding online replays as a feature achieves is simplifying the process for those few gamers who use it and generating extra costs for the developer/publisher.

It's bette from an RTS standpoint more than FPS, I don't really get any enjoyment from watching other people shooting others.
However, there is nothing like being able to watch an RTS match up develop from a small battle into a grande brawl.

It's useful for tournaments where you send a video/demo of the game to prove no one was cheating and show who won.

Also if someone is cheating you have evidence to get them banned.

NHL 09 had this feature and it was kind of neat to upload it to their servers, but I find if the feature intrudes on the game play, like it did in 09, where you had to pause the game to record your video, then it's kind of detrimental.

I think it is a nice feature for those moments that you just have to see again. Plus there isn't any guarantee that by not having the replay feature will have any effect on the release time.

Either way, it is a nice feature, but not a necessary one.

I find its used alot in more competetive online games, in Wic it was incredibly valuable to look at your mistakes, how you were outplayed ect, in demigod I use it to find the best type of build.

I would love it in some of my games.
It would make uploading gameplay from my DS much much easier.

I'm sorry, but I've never heard of Wic. What type of game is it?

Takes a shitload of programming to build in that feature. I mean, it took forever to put it in Halo 3, and it would, when you think about it. They have to be able to have the camera, and any point, and any time.

It actually does not take that much time to build in such a feature, and it's highly doubtful that the feature really intruded on Halo 3's production time. This feature isn't too hard to implement as all you need is something that records the movement data of game and blamo it's done. It hardly takes up space at all either. I've saved many replays of Dissidia matches I've played and each save is only a few hundred kilobytes. It's only when you convert that data to real footage that you start getting into bigger data capacity.

Anyways I'd actually like to see this feature more in games, I'm one of those few people who enjoy watching peoples replays as it's both entertaining and informative. i have picked up on so many little strategies from watching replays that it's helped my playing habits greatly. These features are just awesome in Fighting games, and it's even more fun when there is an editor as well to make a great moment into a cinematic piece of awesome.

A wii bit off topic but does Dissidia need the PS3 in order to play online? Or is that false?
