My DS has been broken for quite a while now and I plan to get a replacement for it soon. But with the release of the 3DS I'm not sure if it's a good investment now. If they start making games only for the 3DS then buying a DS now might not be a good idea. Some of the 3DS games appeal to me (like paper mario and Zelda) but it's quite a bit more money. So my question is, which would be the best investment?

Personally, I'd stick with the DS but it depends on how big your current and back libraries are. The 3DS seems more gimmicky, and has features I see and mostly pointless outside of Japan. Hearsay also questions the use of the 3D technology when the games seem better played with it turned off, plus the boost to battery life with it disabled.

Honestly, I would go for the 3DS. It's more than just an upgrade from the DSi to the DSiXL or something. It's pretty much a whole new console. Sure, right now it would be cheaper to just buy a regular DS considering there aren't many 3DS games out yet, but a ton of great games are coming out soon. It's kind of like buying an Xbox original when the Xbox 360 first came out or something. It's cheaper, but after a while you'll probably wish you had upgraded. Plus there's backwards compatibility so you can still play all the great DS games and get the new 3DS games as they come out.

But then again I'm pretty much a Nintendo fanboy...

True, but my main concern is that they will only make games for the 3DS and stop making them for the DS.

That doesn't seem like much of a fanboy argument honestly. I would like to play OoT and paper mario. Hoping for majoras mask at some point...

I try not to be, but I mean I bought the 3DS day one and have been a lifelong Nintendo supporter...

And not that I can tell the future or anything, but the DS is so popular that I doubt they'll stop making games for the DS. If that was really the case, they would have waited to release Pokemon Black & White until after the 3DS came out. Plus the DS is too popular for it just to die. It's like the PS2.

Everything about the 3DS is better except the price. Everything. I mean, it plays regular DS games anyway, so why not just upgrade?

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Im really liking my 3ds, more games would be good but street fighter 4 looks fantastic on it and the 3d is very cool with it, cost is a bit much and the battery life kinda sucks but Im pretty happy with it, altho its ds emulation is a bit weird for me, bit blury and the sound is kinda off but Im not sure if thats a ds thing or if its just mine

If you're looking towards the price, go with the DSi or any other unit. If you're looking for comparability and newer games, then go with the 3DS.

Your best bet may want to be the 3DS, considering the upcoming title selection.

You might as well jump to the 3DS, given the titles that are coming out for the thing. If you're concerned about the price, go to a DSi or DS lite.
