It seems that most people really disliked Raiden in MGS2, but personally, I really liked him, and don't see what all the hate was (or is) about. Ok, I take that back, he can seem overly effeminate, pretty "whiny", and many people would prefer Snake to have been the only player character, but I still don't think he deserves all the hate he gets.

I voted the first option, because it's closest to my choice. I didn't hate him in MGS2, but I didn't think he was all badassed in it either. He was just a guy stuck in a shitty rigged situation. He was a little better in part 4, up until him and Snake started their soap opera moment with the whole lighting, rain, and blah. I look forward to playing him in his own game.

The only Metal Gear game I have played completely is Sons of Liberty, I personally did not like him that much but that's because Snake looked and sounded cooler.

I don't hate him by any means, but that's mainly because he is a computer game character so the strongest I would feel is 'dislike'.

Grey Fox was a way cooler ninja cyborg then Raiden, and I can't forgive him for being a whiny ***** in MGS2.

Eh, he was okay. It was mostly his exchanges with Rose that annoyed me. I haven't played MGS4, so I can't offer an opinion on him there, but I quite enjoyed playing as him in MGS2. Was pretty cool.

I liked him.

I won't say it made a nice change to playing as Snake, but I still enjoyed playing the game, and Raiden didn't spoil it in any way, shape or form.

In many ways, I preferred playing as Raiden during Metal Gear Solid 2, since playing as Snake wouldn't have resulted in the storylines that Raiden brought up, including his connection to the main villain of the game.

I reckon my only complaint with Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2 is that using his sword's really difficult when you first get it.

Also, he was awesome in Metal Gear Solid 4, and he'll be equally so in Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

In MGS2, Raiden was whiney and annoying. But the real reason so many hated him was because he wasn't Snake. Going into MGS2, you're fooled into thinking you'll follow Snake around the whole time, only to have him replaced by a far less likable character less than 2 hours in. It was a big "screw you" to a lot of MGS1 fans who wanted to play as their favorite character again. After all, the whole series is really about Snake, not some kid that apparently can't decorate his room (Really, did we need to sit through 5 minutes of Rose crying about Raiden's undecorated room?).

In MGS4, on the other hand, Raiden is relegated to a being a side character (which he should have been in the first place), so he can shine with some cool, over-the-top, moments.

It's called Character Development.

[sub]I love the 'skip codec conversation' button. It got so much use in MGS2.[/sub]

I've always liked Raiden.

I enjoyed his story, I thought he was an interesting character and I never got why people hated him so much.

And I think he just got better over time.

Damnit! I voted yes because I thought it was about the Raiden from Mortal Kombat.
No, because I've never played mgs.

I came in here hoping it was about the lightning god and not the whiny effeminate albino from the MGS series. My hopes were dashed.

While I have played the first three MGS games I really don't care about them very much. They're fun for a while, but the endless stream of "character development" makes me want to stab my eardrums with a Q-tip.

In Metal Gear Solid 2, Raiden was an essential tool to deconstruct the expections of the player. Instead of the hardened and cynical war hero they got a former child soldier with a lot of issues that is not taken seriously by anyone and sexually assaulted by the bloody president of the US. In my opinion he was quite a breath of fresh air from the usual video game protagonists.
