I am an organ donor, because someone should get to use them.
Off topic: although as a note, I do know someone who was organ donor, got in a motor-cycle accident, and had a partial autopsy to remove his organs WHILE HE WAS STILL ALIVE. His chance of survival was low, so they made the ragged deep incision (they're not careful when they think you're dead anyways) before the doctor decided they'd try to save him. Yes, they started to harvest the organs before they tried to save him. He's alive now, although he has to go in for a lot of surgeries because the autopsy incision destroyed his abdominal muscles. Just a scary side-not.

Yes I am (signed up as soon as I was old enough). Since I'm not using the stuff why can't someone else? I want to be as useful as a dead person can be.

While we're talking about it, sort of, does anyone know why gay people can't donate blood? And does anyone know if it applies to bisexual people?

I think it's something to do with the fact anal sex increases the chance of transmitting AIDS.....I think.....

It's not that it has an increased chance of transmission, it is that a larger percentage of the gay community carries STDs than the straight community.

I think the HIV virus was for quite some time exclusive to the gay community.
However, I think straight people are pretty much just as likely to get infected by STDs as gay people nowadays.

HIV was never exclusive, it was not as noticeable in the straight community bearing in mind that HIV manifests years after infection.

The association is that the gay community at the time was noticeably more promiscious so a higher incidence of infection occured.

I heard that like, Patient Zero was a homosexual, so it just spread around their population like back in the 80s or whatever.

But seeing as tests are easily available for STIs, I think that rule is just plain fucked.

Im not because I dont think they would allow an overwight minor donate his organ.

But it's not your call, it's there's. Why not sign up and when you die they make the decision and at least have the option to take it. No donor card = no option.

Why isn't everyone an organ donor by default? It's not like you need them since you are dead...

This is probably rhetorical, but what the hell. Some people have religious reasons for not wanting their organs harvested after death. That is just one reason why everyone isn't a donor by default.

Thanks to religion quality organs which could have saved someones life are rotting underground. Thanks a bunch. Saving lives should always be a priority, if someone really wants their body to remain untouched, they should be the ones to put in the effort and request to be omitted from the organ donor program.

I am not at the moment, but I think I will become one. Because the way I look at it is, I certainly don't need them anymore.
That is, unless I become rich and can afford to be frozen. In that case, I'll keep my organs.

If you're that rich you could buy some nice new ones when you're thawed out. Especially as you'll probably only get to be frozen if you die peacefully ie of old age or disease.

I have no problem with organ donation, it's just that you may not have died and they will harvesting your organs. When organ growth becomes public this won't be a problem anymore unless you don't have the money.

My word; aren't you the unpopular one. Afraid that your family will say "oh yes, he's only been on life support for a week, but we never liked him anyway, so go ahead - pull out his organs so some fat bastard we've never met can get his crappy heart replaced"?

Stop worrying about what's going to happen if you're in a coma and start working on your social skills.

Yup. Don't need 'em, maybe help somebody who does, all that stuff. Cram the rest of me in a box and plant a tree on it.

Also, since I fully expect to die a virgin, putting my organs into someone more attractive is probably my only hope for getting even partially laid.
