Hey Escapist.

What are your thoughts on Origin?

Not the Bioware game, the new digital download store from EA.

My opinion, nah. For one thing, it is too exclusive, while services like Steam and Onlive have a variety from different publishers, Origin is only limited to EA titles like BF3 and ME3.

Thoughts?

The best Game download sites all have their niche for me, so unless it can beat one of the others in a category I can't see myself ever using it:

Amazon downloads are always the cheapest
Steam has the widest selection
GOG is DRM free

Exclusively offering some games might get me to do try it, but I'm more likely to buy elsewhere just to spite them for spiting me.

Competition is always good imo. If steam didn't have special offers i would not use it as it is generally expensive.

Didn't steam start out only basically having Half Life 2? All these services have to start out somewhere.

Well, I see no reason not to. It sells games digitally, it has special offers like limited editions for EA games, and it (as far as I can tell) costs nothing to get and run. Why would you not get it? Yes, I'll still use steam, but I'll get the games I want from whichever company sells them cheaper.

download managers are not bloody trading cards, i dont know why EA thinks adding their own into the mix is a good idea. i have as few managers as are necessary to get the games i want, and really, with a few exceptions steam has just about everything i want and whatever other managers i had have drifted into the darkest depths of my C:// drive. i do NOT want to have to deal with another one because EA is a stubborn old man who refuses to play ball with steam. EA has a flimsy enough relationship PC gamers as it is; if they expect me jump through more god damn hoops to get their games in addition to thier vocal hatred of PC gamers and our horrible puppy drowning pirates AND their shitty DRM...well fuck em. i never liked puppies anyway.

So does this mean EA will no longer be selling on Steam?
Most likely they will keep selling on Steam, just have better reasons to buy their games on Origin, like pre-order bonuses that you can't get on Steam.

All I can say is that I won't be using it, but more power to everyone else if it results in lower prices.
