I used to buy only in-store . . . but seeing as how it's become harder and harder to do so (GameStops only have a tiny little PC section, and they only carry the most current AAA titles), I've turned to Steam.

If it's absolutely necessary I have a hard copy for whatever reason, I usually order online now via Amazon or Newegg or something similar.

I pay for bandwidth, so for me it's either ordering from Amazon or buying in-store.

Steam (only discounted) and sometimes mailorder and GOG(for The witcher 2).

Shops rarely have good deals anymore, not even in the bargain bins.

I'm Australian, so I try to get the best deal possible. It's ridiculous when our dollar is roughly equal in value to the US, but we often get charged twice as much (even on Steam). So I shop around to see who has the best deal, be that retail, online or otherwise.

I have used cd-key online sellers like g2play, and once I have the CD-key I download the game via Steam or Origin. When Deus Ex was selling in stores and on Steam for $80, I paid $39 from G2play, and then downloaded the game through steam. I also got Mass Effect 2, Deadspace 2 and Battlefield Bad Company from them, and then downloaded the games through Origin.

I have also used Play-asia and Amazon for mail order, GoG, D2D, Origin and Steam for downloads.

Steam/Gamersgate when the games are on sale or if I just get a sudden impulse to buy a certain game. But if the game is full price then I usually buy them from a internet store that sells physical copies (they're usually cheaper then both steam/gamersgate and local stores, at least in my country).

I mostly buy reatail from my local Gamestop. I like the feeling of having the game in my hand.
I do have some games on Origin(mostly DLCs from back when it was EA Link) but some games I want and dont really care about that much I have on Steam, most of them where bought when Steam gave discounts.

The order of most games bought:
Retail
Steam
Origin

OnLive (I have a account but have never payed for anything)

30% on Amazon
30% on a www-shop where you can order UK versions
30% on Steam

10% left .... uhm ... i plan to get those but cancel my preorder when i see the first videos.

Steam for Sales
Gamersgate for prices better than Steam
Retail for when I'm bored near a shop
and GOG for DRM free classics and soon more recent games.

I save most purchased for outrageous Steam sales, but I hardly ever buy retail from there.

Oh I don't use a Credit Card. I use a Debit Card. I owe enough money on my mortgage already to casually go running up more debt.

I order the retail copy online, at a swiss video game store called World of Games which I fucking love. Their prices are consistently low, and if you order in the early afternoon, the game usually the arrives the very next day. Basically, I love this site and they have made me a loyal customer with their excellent service.

Also, I don't have a credit card, nor do I need one, and I don't feel like getting one just to buy stuff on Steam. Maybe when I move out and need a credit card anyway, I'll start buying some stuff on Steam.

I get them from a whole range of sources.

My internet is limited, so I have to be careful what I buy download only. When I do, it is generally Steam or GoG stuff that is on sale.

Most of my games, despite knowing full well the insane costs involved, I buy here in Aus from the local Game store. While I know it is cheaper to buy from an overseas website and get them shipped, I like the security of knowing it will work for usre without worrying about coding, region locks, etc.

On a more social note, I also enjoy visiting the store, where a close friend works, and prefer to spend my money locally when I can so that people keep their jobs.

Either gog or Amazon, occasionally Steam. Depends on how I feel at the time.

Amazon. Really paranoid about loosing my Steam account somehow, so every game I have, I have a physical copy off. And considering Amazon's prices are hilariously small compared to Steam's, it's a win-win situation. The exception to this is, obviously, stuff that is either Steam-download only/impossible to find elsewhere (Like Magicka is, I think) or dirt-cheap on Steam (Magicka again. Got it for E 2.49 on the sale that was on recently), so I don't loose much if my paranoia DOES pay off. Which it won't. But still.

75% Steam
20% Amazon.com
5% Other (Like other distributors, GOG, a bunch of specialty places like 'the Adventure Shop', etc.)

Steam is good, if you're buying on or near release-day and don't feel like waiting for mail delivery or going to the store. They're also good with sales. What they're not good with however, is price-comparisons to other retailers. They'll keep their games at $60 for months, or years while 99% of all other retailers have marked it down $20 or more.

So I generally move to Amazon when I want a boxed retail copy on release, or a collector's edition. If it's well past release and Steam hasn't marked-down (which they never do), then I go back to Amazon.
